My family has 3 different Cingular phones and I an interesting problem. The phones are a V600,V400, and SamsungX427. I can be setting in a location that is well with in a normal Cingular area. The V400 and X427 both with say Cingular but my V600 will show Cingular Extended.

I have called customer service and of course they are no help. Does any one have any ideas.

alfa tag meanings... the readers digest version

Cingular Wireless... tower that is integrated into the new company network

Cingular...tower is a cingular network tower (non integrated) former (old) cingular

cingular/att... tower is in the process of being integrated into cingular network

att wireless... non integrated tower former ATT

cingular extended.... tower belongs to another company that cingular has a roaming agreement with

it is quite possible to have 5 phones side by side and have 5 different alfa tags... pending on the available networks and proximity to towers

as long as you are inside your home calling area the alfa tag really means nothing as far as billing goes

Cingular Extend means you're on a tower that doesn't belong to Cingular, but has a roaming agreement with. If you have a National Plan you will never pay roaming anywhere in the US. (Due to the partnerships)

If you want the alpha tag to say Cingular, it's a simple process that requires you to access your network settings.

Just search for available networks thru the menu's on your phone. It'll take about 10 seconds and bring up a list of networks. It'll usually bring up 3. Cingular, Cingular Wireless and Tmobile. Select one of those.

If you have Cingular Extend and are in the same household as one of your other phones with Cingular....powercycle both phones. Chances are you are still connected to a tower outside of your area and the HLR hasn't switched you to the tower closest yet.

PM me if you have any questions.

I did choose to hide my email address therefore I don't believe it will show, if I am wrong...i'll correct it.

Yes I am a CSR, and i'd be glad to answer any questions to the best of my ability. I don't get paid for questions I answer outside of work so my opinion and advice may not suit myself as a rep or you to the best. Do not let this reflect on the company.

I am here to help out in ways I can. Best I can suggest is that you call into Customer Care if any questions arise. 1-800-331-0500 or the usual 611.

If there's anything I can suggest best....Use your * services.
