1) Yes it can be a good thing if you don't like your provider having all kinds of marks on the phones software.
2) Service provider merged with AT&T (Cingular Wireless)
3) Probably damaged software so you can use camera but not record video
4) Reflashing/flexing fixed a software error the video program had so you can record video again.
5) You can find a guide on flash/flexing Vxxx series phones here and you just need a data cable and the softwares, Multiflashflex (included with PST, and MSS)
