Verizon's website said that with Get Email one can "set up your account" to receive alert when email is sent to you. Interesting that they say "set up account" versus set up phone. I went to Mobile Web via my LGVX4500 but could not find any way to set up an alert, nor could I find any place on my account -online. Does anyone know how to do this?

if you have now, an AOL or MSN hotmail or wish to set that up via the phone, once you have that service set up, then you wil be able to set for an alert.
from this link :
http://getitnow.vzwshop.com/getweb.howtoguide.do?tab=2#
on step three you'll see hotlinks, set up the profile online and you'll get the stuff you need to get the alerts. the lino you want to click the the 'mobile web 2.0 companion site' and then from the pop up choose the 'register' button on the left and do all those steps. once your in, it helps you manage your account.
the key is that it needs to be AOL or hotmail to alert you to check through the phone.
hope that does the trick...

Thanks, I'll give this a try later today when I have time. I have MSN Messenger and a hotmail account.
Do we have to pay anything extra for alerts , other than a text message charge ? I think I saw something about a cost per 100 alerts somewhere.

that's if you want a prepackaged service. the service to send the alert is no charge but you will get a charge of .10 to send and .02 to receive without a package or you can buy the packages starting at 2.99 for 100 text messages and it goes up from there.....

Maybe I'm not understanding something. At the URL you mentioned, I see no step 3 or hotlinks. I see a hypetext link to Mobile Web that does not actually take me there.

Thanks, more passwords and the usual confusion about do they really want my usersname or 10 digit number, and I am in to the registation area where I can customize. I'm still looking for the set-up email alerts area though.
Back to my quest.

Progress of sorts. I have managed to set yp email alerts via Yahoo mail but have not figured out how to do it with MSN Hotmail. Yahoo gave instructions on the cellphone to go to a particular URL on the Internet and set up the alert. I assume it is the same for MSN. Will dig around some more but I do now have filters set up in Yahoo Mail to send me an alert to the cell phone whenever my boss emails me . Cool !
