LG L1400 Flip cover screen doesn't always show time/status?

I just bought an unlocked Cingular LG L1400. On the flip screen display, or the Sub Display, how come it doesn't always show the time and status? The screen is just black.
It only displays it after you close the cover for about 5 seconds then the Cingular screensaver comes on and then it blacks out.
I figured it would always stay on, like on Motorola's. Am I missing a setting somewhere?

This is how it works... Saves much battery life by turning off.

If you wanted to keep the time on there, there should be a setting in the settings menu about how long you want the subdisplay to keep showing. I think the option should be like always on. But i wouldn't recommend this because of battery life

I'm having the same problem. When you set the Sub display backlight to "Always On" in the settings, it stays on for five seconds then a screensaver comes on scrolling "cingular" across the screen. I can't figure out any way to change the screensaver or prevent it from coming on. It's pretty irritating. I just want to be able to glance at my phone and see the time.

Could it be so that burn in doesn't occur?
I haven't figured out a way to keep the screen on, but what I do is just press one of the three button on my LG1400 and I can easily see the time that way.

ON YOUR PHONE U NEED TO GO INTO MENU , PRESS 9, THEN PRESS 2 , THEN PRESS 2, THEN PRESS 2 AGAIN, AND SELECT WHICH TIME U WANT. IF U WANT IT TO ALWAYS BE IN PRESS 5, AFTER THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS .

Actually, what that does is just keep the screen saver on all the time.
