Can I change the software on my V525... It has the Vodafone software on it... I would like to get rid of the vodafone live option on the homescreen especially... Can I use a V500 software???

I would just flash with one of the triplet files instead. You can use .4fr, .45r flash.

What I mean: Are there chances to end-up with a dead phone... I'm just 2 days away from selling it, but I get extra if it's unbranded...

You can find the solution to your problem at debrander.de
It takes 2 Minutes to get rid of all the Vodafone stuff (Operator links in games/sounds/picture, Vodafone Websessions, Softkey Image,...) and all that without a data cable and No risky flashing/flexing

Proven effective? If so sounds worth it to me if the cost is right.

The customizer available at debrander.de is not working on my phone (. This is a real pain in the ass.

Not to be mean or anything.
The risk is on the operator and the knowledge of he/she has on following directions of flashing. The other risk is where the files are downloaded from as well.
I have used these flash files before with no problems.

For what you are asking in the first post, another option is to edited the mma_ucp file using motorola tool or similar. This requires some knowledge of seem editing, however. Any wrong doing, will result in a phone that will not function properly.
I would read up on it further should you go that route.
