I can't get mp3, wma, or wav to work, only MIDI. Sometimes I just get a "400: Page Cannot Be Found", though the file is available to any computer-based web browser. If I'm lucky enough to find the file, then wait for it to download, I get the "File Type Not Recognized" error.
I've contacted Motorola.

To get the feel of how to do this , first rip your cd to mp3 format then use sound studio in MPT to cut it to 25 sec and then load it up your fone. After a while you guys get a hang of it then start look for mp3 cutter or audacity and Lame for better sound quality

you have to make sure you cut the sound quality to 96kbs or lower. and usually 30 seconds or lower for a ringtone. With my old V551 I have pushed it to over 45seconds.

My mp3's are either 16 or 24kbps, and at least some are shorter than 30s. I even tried hosting them on a different server. Any other ideas?

I make mine 64-96 so they sound better and dont distort as bad when I increase the DB to 2.1.
64 is prolly the lowest I would ever go. and I dont download my ringtone via the net. I transfer them directly with bluetooth or a cable.

I'm just trying to keep the filesize down.

Then I think you've missed the point of this thread. I'm not sure about fxblitz, but I'm speaking Internet-only here. I don't have any alternatives, so I don't know if this is an Internet-only problem.

Additionally, I don't see how the transfer method matters. Even (and only) when my phone completes the download, I get the "File Type Not Recognized" error.

Well it all sounds like the converters being used are not doing their jobs initially. So try getting any already mp3 file, or just try a better program, there is no set limit to ringtones, thats urban legend. As mine are 112kbps and very high quality lasting 30 seconds each. So no they don't have to be 96kbps and whatever, they are bigger in file size for me but i don't complain as they sound crystal clear with no distortion as some may experience. I use mp3 cutter joiner and it works like a charm. But back on topic, check your converters, if your just opening like windows media player and saving as mp3 thats your problem, your going to need an actual converter to get things flowing.
