I just recently acquired the Motorola 551. I'm still in the learning stage of discovering all (most) of the features of the phone. However, the battery life of the phone stinks. It took me a little while to play with and learn the buttons on the side of the phone. By the way, the battery life of the phone stinks. The menue itself was a bit challenging, but I'm finally getting the hang of it. Did I mentioned that the battery life of the phone stinks?
Initially, when I was in the midst of purchasing the phone, several "tech-salespersons" in the Cingular store misguided me to the features of the phone. You should also know that the battery life of the phone stinks. What each salesperson told me contradicted one another, even when I called their support number. Though the person was very helpful and friendly, I still was not given the proper information on the phone. I don't know what your experience has been with your phone, but the battery life of my phone stinks.
I've since purchased an addition charger to keep at the job site, because the battery life of the phone stinks. My next step is to buy an addition charger for the car, because the battery life of the phone stinks. It is so annoying icon_mad.gif hearing the beep that comes on when the phone is about to die. And it's all due to the fact that the battery life of the phone stinks.

Sounds like you'd be better off with a different manufacturer and model phone. If you acquire the phone within your 30-day period, get another.

You could also look into getting an upgraded battery from the manufacturer, most models have more then one battery available. You would have prob got the basic battery with that phone, there may be another battery with extended life between charges.

Thanks for your suggestion. Don't get me wrong, I like the phone, it's just that the battery life sucks. Some one else suggested looking into getting a diff. better battery. I think that I'm going to look into it.

after reading all the posts so far on this topic... consider this... there are 3 part in play that could be at fault... the phone... the battery and the charger...you have eliminated the charger... you are considering the battery... but it still may be the phone...

are you using bluetooth? if so that will drain the battery ...
also I have heard that using the speakerphone will drain the battery faster as well

I would consider the above first before buying anything

So, the battery life stinks?

Seriously, get it taken in to have a look at it. The average lifespan of the V551 is 7 hours talk/ 7 days standby. (Stats from www.phonescoop.com) it sounds like the battery stinks. Also, I got some gas the other day, and it was way high. I think it was the battery life that stinks. Then, I went to get some groceries, like milk. Skim milk, please, none of that battery life stinks. Then I was all in the cereal isle, trying to decide on Rice Chex and bettery life stinks. I went with Rice Chex.

Oh! A dinosaur came to my house and let me ride on his back. it was totally cool, even though battery life stinks. He even helped me fend off an alien invasion. I named him Battery Life Stinks. He lives in my backyard.

Just a correction on the talk time of the 551. I went to the site (phonescoop.com), and it stated that the talk time is only 3.75 hours, and the stand by time is 9.4 days.
Also, I don't use the BlueTooth feature. Plus I seldom use the speaker phone feature.
One of the things that I'm definitely going to do is switch over to Verizon, but I have to wait for almost two years.

If it's within 30 days, you can cancel cingular without getting put on the contract. Also with the v551, i thought the battery life was okay with it. maybe you have to do one of those charging and discharging cycles. Where you let your battery die, recharge for a couple of hours, use it, then let it die again. That's what cingular told me to do because I noticed when i had a sony ericson z500a, the battery life sucks. When i say it sucks, would last less thatn 3 days, with hardly any talk time on it.

anyway, try that out, or send it back to cingular to give you a new one because that's what i also did with the z500a. In the end, i got a new fone though. hope this helps.

Listen, thanks for your info. However, I'd renewed my contract with AT&T several months ago, then since they'd merged with Cingular, I made the switch with Cingular. However, I will try the discharge and charge with the battery. Thanks again.
