im having a bit of trouble figuring out what's hapened to my internal memory, it all seems to have disappeared. After scanning it gives me the following results:
Mem. in use - 8288 kB
Free memory - 1640 kB
Calendar - 4 kB
Contacts - 37 kB
Documents - 1kB
Images - 0B
Sound Files - 8 kB
Video clips - 0B
Messages - 667 kB
Applications - 0B
now im no genius but that seems to add up to 717 kB, not 8288!
I know that some people have trouble like this where there are system files etc. using up the memory but ive deleted all the old program files and stuff with FExplorer, and anyway ive never seen the problem to such a huge extent!
can anyone offer any clues on where my memory's gone?!

Well, the memory is filled with about 2500kb of apps, system necessary files, etc.
Apps (but games, themes, etc) ain't counted correctly.
Especially when "wild deleting" is done and the install-folder is cleared (this also disables the abillity to deinstall the apps).
I'm wondering how you could fill your memory with so many stuff. It doesn't fills itself.

I don't know what's filling it either!
It makes sense that some of the memory is being used by system files and pre-installed apps but still, I havent got any themes, games or apps installed on the internal memory, and never have done.
I do have a lot of things installed but they are all on my MMC.
I apologise if i've misunderstood you but i still don't understand what is using the rest of the memory!

I see...
But from this far it's hard to say what's up... just guesses...
But:
You could try a deep reset of the phone which sweeps the internal memory clean.

Seems like the deep reset solved the problem! I did it, restored my contacts and got everything back to how it was and now it only says 996kB in use
thanks!

Glad I could help (ok, it was no real help )
Keep an eye on it. Hopefully it won't happen again.

There is no code to reset the memory on Series 40 phones, they only way to "reset" it would be by flashing the phone with a new/old/same firmware...
