Former CSR, tier 1 tech for At&t / Cingular
HBG, PA center one of the first blue centers to go all orange.
serviced blue tdma and gsm customers and the north central telegence market for orange,
I was one of the weird reps that was able to keep my finger on all three blue and orange systems... axys, siebel (after switch to orange center only had access to GLUT) and telegence/clarify.
Favorite part of the job was helping users find the answer for themselves... usually guaranteed an apology from them when they figured out they were wrong.
I don;t really miss the calls from the irate customers with high bills that they really did use up.
I do miss the being able to find and research the few bills and calls that we really did mess up on. Funny how those customers with the real mistakes were usually nicer than the ones trying to get over!
Still keep in touch with others from the call center and try to stay on top of the changes.
i guess I wish I was still there.

I'm a brand new sales rep with T-Mobile, just started end of August, at an independent indirect dealer store. So far, I really love my job! As has been mentioned earlier in the thread, I can't believe how much easier this is in many ways from my old job! I used to rent cars to people-travellers are way ruder than cell phone customers! Still, sometimes we do get some doozies. It's cool that this thread is here so i can vent sometimes!

Don't worry Samsung, I'll try to keep it PG I really don't generally have anything bad to say about my customers, most of them are really nice, and usually it's all in how you treat them. Every once in a while though...

Thanks kiwi! I am sure I will be talking with you soon! Learning the ins and outs of a new provider is challenging to say the least!

i dont work for a specific carrier, but have experience with alltel, sprint, and cingular. i am not loyal to any specific carrier but know good and bad points of all mentioned. My biggest problem w/cell phone users, ignorance and unwillingness to understand how cell phones and service (network) works.

I do not work for a service provider. Bu t I do own a retail store that supplies 4 major carriers at our retail outlet. I have to agree with the person tyhat was explaining the opinion about customer service
It feels the customer sometimes is only thinking, "I have a new phone, I have a new phone". And that is all that is running in there head while our lips are moving explaing the plans, over charges, trial period, and so forth.
Then mind you the customer loves when the price is so low on the phone you just set them up with. But come the bill your the worst sales person to them, or its bad customer service from the carrier.
The problem is the average customer does not get the concept of a contract and cell phones. Why doesnt the average customer complain when there lease is not up and the local paper has a newer model of there car for a reasonable price. You don't see that customer walk in to the dealer ship demanding that price or threating to leave. The carriers have made too comfortable for the customer to treat us beneath them.

I have been doing tech/engineering/opto work since the AMPS days in the late '80's....(some of you may not know what AMPS is) - It has been fun to see the progression in the technology! I miss the days when we could actually FIX things! Now we are in a world of board-swapping and modules. 'Tis a shame that RF knowledge isnt as needed as much anymore.....what they want is an IT person. That is where technology is taking us, though....
I have been with McCaw Cellular, NewVector(Verizon), Nextel, Sprint, and a small RSA carrier. One thing I know; I dont want to sit at a computer all day.
