When a phone gets dropped in the pool, like what happened to me today, is it the battery or the phone that shorts? If I let it sit will it dry out and work? If it doesn't work what else can i do? Thanks
Elliot

Once I left my phone in my pocket and then it went into the washing machine and then the dryer. I only realized it was in there about 20 minutes into the drying cycle after I kept hearing loud banging noises the whole time when it was hitting against the sides of the dryer and I decided to see what it was. Of course, my phone didn't work right after I took it out. I took the cover off, took out the battery and SIM card and let everything dry with a fan pointed at it, and the next day everything worked fine! This incident happened over 1/2 year ago probably, and I'm still using the phone to this day.

This is probably a bit late, but it can be an advice to all other who drops their phones in water. Just like leonchal said, the most important thing is to remove the battery, once this is done one has to consider what kind of water the phone was dropped in. If it was fresh water all you have to do is dry the phone (let it lie for a couple of days on a towel). But if it is salt or swimingpool water I suggest washing the phone in destilled water before drying it. If you dont have any destilled water wsh it in fresh water to get rid of the conductive particles from the water.
Experience show that the battery seldom survives water, however the phone usually survives if you let it dry out carefully.
Hope this was helpfull.

Nice pun, I for one have a t39 that spent some 5 minutes on the bottom of a 2 m well and survived just fine. The battery died though...

Hi,
I would advise you to open your phone and use a spray like WD-40 with a Toothbrush. Then let it rest for a day

if you accidentally swim with your mobile and risk to drown...
if the baywatch notices that the mobile has a bigger chance to die than you who would get the rescue priority ???

I dropped my phone in a basin of soapy water. I just took everything out and set it on top of the radiator. It works fine now

I find this quote in particular to be quite amusing. Just sit back, open your mind, and imagine the following:
Hustle and bustle, a staggering crowd of thousands surrounding you on every side. You, in the midst of it, are working at a restaurant, in the busiest festival of the year: serving the every need of those guests who are graciously giving you their money is exchange for a small amount of your time and hospitality.
9:55 PM: Fireworks, festival draws to a close. After fighting endless traffic obstacles and pedestrians, you finally arrive on the main highway, a one-hour straight stretch of driving. Tired as it is, after a 10-hour shift, your eyes gently begin to close as the soothing sounds of the easy-listening radio station serves as a lullaby for your hunger for sleep.
11:29 PM: Metallica. Kiss. All of those things that you know will keep you awake, on full volume, crammed onto one CD. Your eyes burst open, as you no longer can sleep, due to the heavy pulsating sound waves that surround you.
11:45 PM: Home, at last. After a brief pit stop at a local convenience store to buy Mountain Dew to serve as your caffiene fix for the early morning, and a hard-pack of Marlboro Lights, whilst disregarding your mothers pleas for you to quit echoing in the back of your mind. Finally, walking through the front door, terror strikes: You have a call. From nature. Heading straight for the "facilities", you still have everything in hand, cigarettes, lighter, keys, and most notably your cellular phone.
In a rushed tizzy to make it to the toilet before you have yet another problem to deal with, your right hand loses its grip on what it was guarding so preciously, and your cell phone goes flying into the deep aquatic abyss.
Panic. Mind racing. First thoughts of electrocution during retrieval dashed by basic knowledge of batteries. After attaining the soaking wet communication device, you quickly dissasemble it and leave it to dry. After constant worrying of having to purchase another one, you attempt to reassemble it after an hour and try and see if it works. Surprise, it does.
Moral of this story: Stranger things have happened, this story is 100% true, and if you don't believe me, I've got my dog as a witness! lol
Have a good day!
P.S. And no, the toilet was not "used" nor had been "used" at the time of the incident, and it was disinfected.
