Currently I am using a Motorola V400. BUT I want to change to a T-Mobile Sidekick 2.
1) Can I just take my sim card out of my Motorola V400 and put it into the T-Mobile Sidekick 2 and everything will work fine?
2) Is it possible to use the Sidekick 2 with Cingular service?
3) I'm in the middle of a contract now, so if I want to change to the Sidekick 2, is my only choice to pay like $200 and break the contract with cingular and start a new plan with T-Mobile?
k well, haha sorry I know these are a lot of questions. Thanks for the help!!!!

1. You cannot take the sim card out of your cingular phone and use it in a T-Mobile phone unless it is unlocked and you plan on using the phone with Cingular
2. Yes, if you can get it unlocked, you will not be able to use the data features
3. You could see if anyone would want to take of responsibility for your cingular account (change of responsibility) and cingular would wave that persons activation fee and your ETF.

Thank you for answering so quickly.
Your answers are very helpful !
well, my friend is planning on giving me her T-mobile sidekick 2. But I think she is taking the sim card out of it.
Do they sell blank new sim cards at T-mobile stores?

Yes, you can purchase a new sim card at a T-Mobile store, however to have it activated you will need to have a line of service with T-Mobile.

My sister ends her plan this summer. She has Verizon. I end my plan next year. I wanted her to take over my plan so that I could switch to T-Mobile without getting charged for breaking the contract. But I was told that she would have to use my phone number. I wanted to take my phone number with me to T-Mobile.
If she does take over my plan [Cingular], can she get a different phone number? Or will she have to keep mine?
THANK YOU ! ! ! ! !

that number is owned by Cingular, the only way you are taking it with you is by cancelling a line of service with them... and unfortunately your line is under contract. People who accept COR do not get a new phone, she can buy but if she is taking over YOUR line... you should prob give her your phone.

Hmm this is complicated.
I guess my only option is to wait out the contract with cingular which ends in like Feburary next year.
I dont want to pay for breaking the contract, thats $200 down the drain.
[or perhaps when I get a job during the summer or in the fall, i'll be able to splurge] ---> And plus, I don't think I have enough money right now to start paying a $60 per month plan with T-Mobile for the Sidekick 2.
After my plan is up [or if i choose to cancel service w/cingular], I think I can take my phone number with me to T-Mobile.
And just give away my Motorola cell phone.
But I'll have to buy a new sim card from T-Mobile for the Sidekick 2.
yup I guess thats my plan. i dont really have any other options.
Thanks a lot for your help!!

Can you tell if a cell phone is unlocked, or how do you get it unlocked?

Cell phone is unlocked if you can put another service providers sim card into it and use there service. If you cannot then the phone is locked to a specific carrier. If this unlock is regarding your Motorola V400, you should track down OLD_FOOL in the motorola talk forum, he will be able to assist you. I think that you will need to have that model unlocked with a smart clip or by the service provider.

I currently have a Tmobile phone obviously with a TMobile SIM card. Would I be able to switch the SIM card into any TMobile branded/locked phone and able to use it without losing any of the phone's features ???
One thing though, the phone and SIM I have is TMobile USA and the new phone is TMobile UK. The phone has the same quad band etc but its a different brand. I currently have Motorola V188 and the new phone is Sony Ericsson W300i. Both are Tmobile. The Sony Ericsson is without a SIM card. Would my SIM card from my Tmobile Motorola work in this Sony Ericsson ???
Thanks for any help.
