so how is Cingular voiding a contract when you changed the conditions?

I just found this forum today. Wow! Lots of great stuff. I just heard that cingular got bought out and they are losing some of their towers. That explains why we've been dropping calls left and right. My husband and I just fume when we see their commercial. "cingular, fewer dropped calls"...that's a bunch of baloney!!! We went in on the family plan and got 3 LG c2000 phones. We've already exchanged them once because it kept resetting itself on the volume and the speakerphone hissed like bacon sizzling. We're expecting new ones in the mail Wednesday because we're still having problems. Cingular swears it's a phone defect. I liked it better with AT&T. With AT&T I could receive unlimited text messages. Not only does cingular charge me to receive them, they also charge me internet time on them. Something stinks!! Has anyone else heard about the buy out? Who?

Cingular has real issues when it comes to their customer service and how they expect YOU to accomodate THEM. The ignorance is astounding!!!

I have been with Cingular since before they were Cingular, they were Southwestern Bell (I think that was part of SBC or is the same). Back in 1995! The ONLY thing Cingular screwed up on what transfering my rollover when I changed phone numbers last year. I was told every time I called that they would take care of it. The last call I was told they could only transfer 1500. That was fine.... I get the same thing every time I call. Still not one of my 4500 minutes moved to my new number.
Well, its not costing me anything, its not preventing me from making calls, and its not going to ruin my feelings about Cingular. No company is perfect, but if you really look into those other companies you will see that Cingular has the better plans, better coverage, simple language, and really does have the least number of dropped calls. I have also spent time (unhappily, frustratingly, and costly) with Alltell, attw, and Sprint.

And YOU are the type of person they THRIVE off of. They don't do what they should, don't do what they SAY they will do and you just sit back and take it saying "oh well", sorry but when I am paying for a SERVICE I expect the service to be done and done correctly. Why should I sit back and pay for someone to TAKE my money and not give me what I'm paying for??? Would you go to a restaraunt and when they forget your drink the ENTIRE meal still pay for it at the end? I doubt it, that's not much different then what you are doing now.
And as for companies and service plans, I actually feel T-Mobile is the BEST. They give FREE minutes and even with their *Pay as you Go* plans you get FREE minutes.
Good Luck to anyone that continues to use Cingular, you'll NEED IT !!

I just don't see how anyone can not understand HOW THEY voided the contract? Does Cingular pay you to be this obnoxious on their behalf?
When someone asks for a NEW PHONE NUMBER that is NOT voiding the contract. When someone is told they will NOT be given a new phone number that IS voiding the contract. THEY refused to give a new number, its absurd and uncalled for. If we'd asked for a number with a ALASKA area code it shouldn't matter, we are PAYING for the service and they need to accomodate the CUSTOMER. THEY did not accomodate, nowhere does it say YOU CAN'T CHANGE WHERE YOU LIVE in the contract. So THEY are the ones that screwed up. Heck, if they'd just given the stupid number then they would have had money coming in for another year 1/2, now they are getting NOTHING and we are letting EVERYONE know exactly how they treat people. I've posted on several online forums.

in order to give you a number the carrier has to be licensed for that area...
when you started with that service you were living in an area (determined by your zip code) the carier was licensed for...
you moved to an area (also determined by your zip code) that said carrier is not licensed for.....
to put this in terms that you can understand...
technically speaking all phone numbers are issued by the FCC,...the phone number relate to a geographical area (determined once again by a zip code) if the carrier does not have the license to lease a number block for that area that carrier cannot supply a number...end of line...
**YOU** effected the change not the carrier...
did you ask the carrier prior to moving?
or did you ASSUME?
the original service contract is still valid

cingular bought ATTW, then the parent companies bought cingular's parent companies which will make them ATT wireless again. they have not lost towers, and nothing will change when they become ATT wirelss.
a phone resetting itself will be a phone issue. the network cannot make a phone reset itself.
text messages are not charged data.

I am not a Cingular Rep... but like practical4 up there, I've been with Cingular almost 10 years. Since before they even were Cingular (In my case, they were BellSouth Mobility.)
While you are yelling at the reps and calling them stupid, and saying Cingular f*cked up... You need to think about something.
In addition to what Elmo said, there's another reason why they may not have been able to give you a new number. (Again, I'm not a rep...)
When I moved from Louisiana to Pennsylvania, they were able to change my number with no problem, because the phone system was the same (TDMA or CDMA? I forget).
However, when I moved from Louisiana to California, they were not able to give me a new number, because Cingular in Ca. used GSM, whereas Cingular in Louisiana did not. And the two systems were not compatible.
The *DMA systems do not use sim cards, but the GSM system does. *DMA phones do not come with a space for a SIM card, as far as I know.
So I cancelled my old number, and got a new one in California. It wasn't as big a deal as you make it out be.
I do not believe that Cingular screwed me over, because it was my choice to move to an area with a different system.
Now, I don't know if there are different systems in the two states you are talking about. I'm just giving another example as to certain times when Cingular can't give you a new number in a new location.
And for your Alaska example... assuming Alaska is GSM, you wouldn't have been able to just get a new number there either.
(Any reps, feel free to correct me on my info...)
And for god's sake, it doesn't say "you can't change where you live" in the contract because It's not Cingular's f*cking job to tell you what to do with your life.
Are you blaming Cingular because you didn't do your research ahead of time?
(I knew before I moved to Ca. that I wouldn't be able to keep my phone or just get a new number.)
Your contract also doesn't say "Don't run over phone with your car." Are you gonna blame Cingular if you do accidently run it over, saying "It wasn't in the contract! It's not my fault!"?
And saying you can't help where you live? CINGULAR DIDN'T MOVE! Your mother did!
Oh, and...
| Quote: | | They said she should have told them she was going to move. |
I so f*cking agree that she should have called up before she moved and said "Hey, I'm moving to this place. Will I have service there? If not, what can be done?"
Seriously, don't blame Cingular for your lack of research.

Well, gee.... aren't YOU a pleasant person with all your swearing.
I never said I yelled at them at all, I never said anything unpleasant to the idiots but I will say HERE that they are IDIOTS !!
Your entire post was really ignorant since you do NOT know the area. There is NO DIFFERENCE in system between the 2 states. There is NO REASON they could not have given her a number, and if she lived in the next town over they would have given her a new number without question. They just didn't like our zip code. Because they do not specifically have a tower in this town they wouldn't give a new number. They specifically told her this. They do offer service in this area and if I went to my local Cingular store I could get a phone any day of the week, its JUST because she moved and asked to transfer the number they decided to act like idiots. She did NOT move across country and there is NO REASON they couldn't have accomodated her except they are Jack@sses that just don't care.
And who really cares that you are such a Happy little customer, if that is the case WHY are you on a message board with people who HATE the company??? Just because you want to think you are soooo cool because you like them you can think again, being rude is NOT *cool*. And your reasons that you shouldn't have moved over a stupid cellphone is absurd, nobody dictates my life except myself. And NOT some stupid phone company.

And that was exactly my point. Don't blame Cingular for your choices.
Also, I joined this forum not because I'm a "happy little customer", but because I believe that I can provide some minor help sometimes.
I'm actually in this particular thread because I was looking for the Corporate number for someone else, and I posted because I got tired of your holier-than-thou attitude.
I *am* a pleasant person until I get tired of someone's attitude... But *none* of your posts in this thread have been pleasant.
| Quote: | | There is NO DIFFERENCE in system between the 2 states. |
I think only a Cingular rep would know that for sure.
| Quote: | | Just because you want to think you are soooo cool because you like them you can think again, being rude is NOT *cool*. |
I never said I was cool. You need to calm down and stop putting words in my mouth that were never there.
I just stated how long I've been with them because I've experience all manner of things with Cingular. And I was trying to share my experiences so that maybe you'd get a bit more understanding.
But you don't want to understand do you? You just want to hate Cingular, no matter what, don't you?
Why do *you* keep posting in a thread that's trying to help people, when you obviously don't like the answers given?
