The ONLY blame that cingular is getting is for being STUPID in not giving a local number for NOT a valid reason. If they did not offer service in the AREA that would be different but for them to be totally ignorant as to say its because of one specific town is absurd.
You really need to get a clue!!!

as i said, the service users in that area may be roaming on another carrier's netowrk. we may not give service in that area, but cingular phones can still work there.

Steva, I'd say it's no use trying to reason with her... She's waving the "I hate Cingular" flag and she refuses to put it down.
Rebecca, I added more to my post... go back and read it again.

No, I know what the deal is. *You* are the one refusing to listen to reason.

Thanks for the clarification, steva... I wasn't sure. It's been a few years.
I'm rather happy to have switched to GSM and simcards... No more having to redo my address book every time I get a new phone!

Well considering I KNOW what I'm talking about I have no reason to declare either of you *right*. There is NO roaming going on, there is NO reason to *claim* they don't have service. Neither of you have any business posting in this thread anyway, if you are *oh so happy* with the idiots then yippie for you, don't tell the rest of us that we are WRONG to be unhappy with a company that treats the customer like Sh!T.

No, you don't. Elmo already said it.
| elmo01 wrote: | in order to give you a number the carrier has to be licensed for that area...
when you started with that service you were living in an area (determined by your zip code) the carier was licensed for...
you moved to an area (also determined by your zip code) that said carrier is not licensed for.....
to put this in terms that you can understand...
technically speaking all phone numbers are issued by the FCC,...the phone number relate to a geographical area (determined once again by a zip code) if the carrier does not have the license to lease a number block for that area that carrier cannot supply a number...end of line... |
Pretty much, number lisencing is handled via the FCC through a company called NANPA. Any wireless or wireline companies lease their numbers from NANPA in 1,000 number incriments, and they're divided into defined rate centers. If Cingular doesn't have lisencing for the rate center that you currently live in, then there's no way to give you a number they do not have.
Some areas are different, however, than others. AT&T Wireless controlled a slew of 434 numbers that were still being billed under TritonPCS (Suncom), but those numbers were lease-lined so licensing was originally Triton (that is, we pay Triton to use their licensed numbers). The customer were able to keep their numbers, but they can never get a new 434-area code, or a number out of a related rate center until Cingular is approved licensing.
It depends where you live, it depends on the rate center. Some areas are entirely lease-lined, but the leases do not cover mergers or corporate purchases. Which means, areas that had AT&T Wireless service may not have numbers until lisencing is approved or new contracts are signed.
Until then, local numbers are not available.

I don't believe neither mine nor Elmo's explanation will get through your skull, but that's because you're not looking for an answer. You're not even looking for a resolution. You're looking for a reason to hate Cingular Wireless.
And if anyone disagrees with your unfounded disposition, or if someone actually appreciates the company because they have a totally positive experience, then they're just brainwashed tools. But you, "R," you're too smart for that. You see right through that.
So please. Don't come to us for our help and our experiences if all you're looking for is a reason to be be pissed. If you want our help, you'd bloody well listen. If you just want to be pissy, then get a Livejournal.

As I stated before THIS thread was for those UPSET with the stupid company and wanting a real resolution. I was NOT looking for anyone to sit back and tell me how wrong I am. *I* DO know what *I'm* talking about, you people have no business sitting back saying a fcking thing to me. GO AWAY !! I WILL tell anyone and EVERYONE how horrible a company they are. I immediately shared with with over 500 ladies on a message board I post on regularly. And I was NOT surprised to receive MANY replies back that they too had problems with the company over STUPID things.
Cingular SUCKS and that is all there is to it !!!!

Wait. You're saying, I can't go tell you a single thing? What good is that if you want our help. It's obvious you're not listening. We've told you already: Cingular cannot give numbers out that it does not have, and that's no violation of the agreement.
Look, "R," I'm not defending Cingular Wireless. I do not endorse, promote, or even sell their product. I'm defending civility, rationality, and defending against childish emotional outbursts. Just because you dislike the answers you're getting does not mean you have a write like you're kicking and screaming AND TYPING IN CAPS.
You're on the internet. You're typing on a keyboard. You're probably a good thousand miles away from anyone who's been trying to talk to you. You might as well be in a glass box screaming your throat hoarse, but no one's going to hear you and quite frankly, there're other things that most other things in this world that we'd be more inclined to care about.
So go, tell everyone what a rotten company Cingular Wireless is just because no one can help with something that can't be help and how you refused to listen because you oh are-so right and vastly knowledgable about how this business works. Go ahead and get all that attention from your five-hundred womaned message board about how you're at the center of some great mishap and no human soul gave you a single care.
I'm not losing sleep over your emotional outbursts, and I don't think anyone else here is either. Now, unless you want to listen, or anyone else wants to, we--the people who post on this message board--might be able to answer a few questions.

1st off I am not having "emotional outbursts", I am trying to get MY point across and since I'm typing on a keyboard where you can't hear the reflections in my voice I will emphasize a specific word to get my point across.
2nd, I was NEVER "asking for help", I found the board and was excited to find that we were not the ONLY ones having problems with the stupid company. I was just posting to say how glad I was that I was able to find information I needed. I NEVER asked for "help", I sure as hell do NOT need "help", I take care of things on my own. I KNOW the company is in the wrong. They would have been more than happy for my mom to drive to the next town over to one of their stores and THEY would get her a new number. The problem is the emplyees at those stores are ignorant too. We had already been to the store they wanted us to go to and the girl said she couldn't do it that day and that we should just call customer service ourselves because that is ALL she would be doing.
If I wanted "help" I would have said "oh, please HELP me, I'm a idiot and can't figure anything out for myself". THAT was not the case, I was just rejoicing in that others knew how we were feeling and could understand what hastles we were going through.
And as far as me "being in a glass box", sorry but the forums I post in DO reach a LOT of people all over the world but mostly in the US. So Yes, MANY ladies did read my posts and that was my goal.
