My wife broke her X427 and I got a Nokia 6340 from a friend. I swapped the SIM card into the new phone, and now when I try to make a phone call, any number, my phone dials the cingular customer service number. Does anyone know why and what I can do to fix this. I just need this phone to work for a month or so.
Thanks a whole bunch,
glen

It could be billing related. They redirect all outbound calls to CS/Collections once you've gone past due.
If you know that's not the issue, contact Care to find out what else could be the problem. I can't do much without your number from work. Since PM's aren't allowed, I can't see.

Thanks for the reply, I don't think it is billing related as i have another x427 on the family plan and the sim works in it. It just fails in the 6340.
thanks again,

What you could try doing, is writing down the serial number from the phone. It should be listed as an IMEI.
If it shows the letters ESN, you have a TDMA-GAIT phone.
What that means basically, your phone can access TDMA *Digital Networks* as well as GSM networks.
Write down the IMEI or ESN from the back of your phone and call Customer Care so we can update your account with the device you're using.

I checked the serial number like you suggested and it does show ESN, so I assume that the 6340i is a TDMA-GAIT phone. As the X427 was a GSM phone, does that mean that this phone won't work with my exsisting SIM card and plan. Also, I can't find anywhere I can select GSM only.
thanks,
glen

Okay, I called Cingular and let me tell you. This has been one of the most pleasent experiences with any customer service I have ever had. I got ahold of a CSR I think named Killeen Walker and she worked for 30 minutes until she got the phone working. If all Cingular employees are like her, this company will take over the world.
One satisfied customer..
