I am having problems with the Nokia PC Suite 4.88 installed on my Windows XP machine, connecting to the phone via infrared.
The installation was working just fine and then it appears to have corrupted itself.
I get the message when trying to run Phone Editor:
Important files are corrupted please reinstall Nokia Phone Editor.
followed by:
Container has encountered a serious problem and needs to close.
which asks me if I wish to send a report to Microsoft. I do and get no where.
So, I uninstall Phone Editor, reboot the machine it and reinstall it per the instructions.
And the problem remains ... does anyone have any advice ... or do I have an XP problem not a Nokia one?

You know, Nokia PC Suite 5.1 is alreday available... Excuse me but the 4.88 version is for Dinosaurs! Moreover with XP, choose the latest version. I don't think that you have probs with XP because with the pro version, 5.1 works perfectly! So download the latest version (only 20 Mo; 5.0 was 50!)

you've got a 6310i! Sh..!!!!!! don't download the 5.1! You'll only be able to use Content Copier. Try the 5.0 and if it doesn't work, try to use the Bluetooth connection! And if it doesn't work too, go to the nearest Nokia centre and explain them you prob.

HI I was wondering if you solved this at all. I have a Nokia 6610. The phone works very well. I have had repeated difficulty, however, with the Nokia phone Editor 4.5, which I am running from Windows 2000 XP Professional. In attempts to cure the problem I have loaded and re-loaded the software Nokia PC Suite 5 many times and I have also loaded and re-loaded Windows. On all occasions I too still get the message “Important files are corrupted. Please re-install software.” The main effect of the corruption appears to be that it is impossible to save messages that are sent from the desk top PC and some of the messages on the phone are not read by the phone editor. So far it is only the messaging function that causes a consistent difficulty.
I previously sent emails to Nokia on this topic but have not received a response. Can you please advise whether you have found any solution to this difficulty.
Many thanks

I'm pretty much in the same boat as Lyndon, except its with PC Suite 6.1 and Nokia Phone Editor 4.6 and connecting with the DKU-5 cable.
NPE 6.1 worked fine for months after I installed PC Suite 6.1 . Then one day I went into NPE not expecting any problems- and got whacked with the "Important Files are corrupted. Please reinstall Nokia Phone Editor" error message.
Even after dutifully following those orders (and even going beyond the call of duty by uninstalling and restarting first) I wasn't been rewarded with a working edition of NPE.
3 months later I still haven't come up with a solution and my phone is overflowing to the point that I've even had to delete potentially useful incriminating SMSes! (j/k)
I also get the container error message, so it seems to be the exact same problem but with more advanced software.
Earlier I read somewhere else that XP Service Pack 2 can be the cause of this problem occuring with PC Suite 6.1, but seeing as I never got round to installing SP2 on my computer, that possibility is ruled out.
PC Suite 6.4 isn't an option either because it doesn't even have Nokia Phone Editor.
Any ideas/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Important files are corrupted please reinstall Nokia Phone Editor.
Go to "your" Nokia Folder (in "your" Docs and Settings) and delete the smsdb file.
You lose your mssgs but the program creates a new smsdb file and opens up ok... well it did for mean ten times so far...
