hi, i would like to bring this back up to the top of the site for re-evaluation.
the original question to this thread was, which flash and flex would be good to do to the V551. i have a friend that needs to know this. he just wants to improve battery life and wants to make the menus faster, and all in all, just a refresh and something different.
so main question here: What recent or a few months old Flash AND Flex WILL work with the V551?
i appreciate the help...well if there is an answer to this question. as seeing there was none in the last 8 or 9 posts here.
thanks again. you will be helping me out and my friend.

The flash is
R472_G_08.18.40R_PDS002_LP0003_DRM0001_reflash_XLR8.hmg
Faster more feature use with the right flex will improve picture taking quality and video.
Flex i like most is
MMV551ZP081_C_MM01

now all of a sudden, the phone is busted. he flashed it with the flash you told me to use, and now the phone WONT stay on. it boots up for a few sec. then turns off. does that mean that the flash was no good? a bad file or wrong compatablility? i dont know where he got it from, i can ask, but in the mean time, what should he do? Monster Flash? if so, which to fix that problem? THANKS!!!

I'm new to the board and I know NOTHING about phone firmware reflashes and all of that other stuff. I have a v551 and my wife just got a refurb for hers, as a replacement and it is a v551j. Her's is sooo much faster. Is there a firmware reflash for my phone? If there is, how do I reflash? How do I tell what version of firmware I have?
Sorry to sound like an idiot, but I could use some instructions and help here.
Thanks in advance.

I just got my v551 yesterday. How can I tell if it's already got the latest firmware?
If it doesn't, in what way is the video and photo capture improved?
thx,
Skip Hunt

Just noticed that this is the same problem I have. I read its due to the downgrading of the bootloader to D0, and can be fized by doing something to the phonebook, but im stumped...

FOR BLACKTEK
old fool is right... v551 is not a triplet.. before flashing read up to find out which MPs and flashes you can use... and most important of all.. make a full backup and PDS backup, so you can fix your phone if something bad happens... now... if you flashed your v551 with v660 flash.. and it doesnt turn on... try *+#+pwr hold those three and then release pwr and keep * and # pressed until you see the bootloader text. chances are this wont work because you flashed with a v600... in that case you can use test point to force your phone to enter bootloader mode. here is an image with the instructions
URL=http://imageshack.us] [/URL]
when you open the phone you'll see that the test point is protected by a metal shield.. just be careful and use a small screw driver to pull it off of the board. its easier than it looks.. the metal thing brakes easily.. then make testpoint. have your program in your comp running so it tells you when the phone is detected (program can be flashbackup or other), then flash it with the right monster pack for you phone. hope this helps.
