Did your friend select the Finalize CD option when he burned the CD? If the CD is not finalized and you are using a CD-ROM drive, you cannot read the CD.
By the way, did you friend be able to read the CD in his drive? If not, may be the burning is not successful.

I am confused. Did you mean the CD can be opened before but the file didn't run when you tried to open it?

well for some reason the cd drive refused to open for a while. It is okay now though. I downloaded a download manager, and am now downloading the EasyGRPS program. thanks again and I'll update when the download ends.

Ok I installed EasyGRPS and it now works. I have successfully transferred images, but now I need to find a program to convert midi files to mmf.

Good to hear that Easy GPRS is working. Although the ringtone upload seems to select mmf files only, you can actually type in .mid extension when you select the file. Type *.mid and select the file you want to be uploaded. The file uploaded to the phone will then have a mmf extension. Apparently, Easy GPRS does the conversion for you.
There are other threads that talk about converting other formats like mp3 to mmf. Here is one of them:

Yea I read this morning where you told someone else the same thing. I got the midi files to work now. thanks for all the help. However, the files sound a little fuzzy or distorted. Any way to avoid this?

Your phone will only accept 40 Polyphonic ringtones same as my E316. It won't sound actually same as what you hear from your PC when you play it with media player. If you convert a MP3 music to ringtone, you will find the difference to be more obvious. I think the best way to get a perfect 40 polyphonic ring tone is by composing it with the correct composer tool. Meanwhile, I think you can keep on trying other ringtones, you should find some that play best in your phone.
