Does anyone know what all these 'way' terminology meanings are in terms of speakers. I'm guessing that the more 'ways' there are the better the speaker, but tecnhincally i don't have a clue.
Anyone, please help!

as applied to a home or car stereo a 2way speaker is 2 voice coils on the same cone to save space for better response on the speaker (better gooder sound) I would assume the same for 3,4 or 5(?!)
that make any sense?

so, if I get 8-way speakers for my car's stereo, I'll get the best sound?
My car's stereo modification: 80watts/channel, 4 speakers (want to upgrade to Pioneer/Kenwood) and one subwoofer (planned, not yet). I don't want to buy an amplifier to get coolest sound.
So, getting 8-way speakers is OK for 5 channels, right?

IIRC... each speakerbox is a channel... four boxes and the subwoofer will occupy all 5 channels... the sub is optional in most cases

Three-way speaker
Three-way, or triaxial, speakers take the separate woofer and tweeter from a two-way design and add a midrange driver for enhanced warmth and texture. Select three-ways use a supertweeter, instead of a midrange, for extended high frequency response. Four-ways combine a woofer, a midrange, a tweeter, and a supertweeter for even more detail.
This three-way Pioneer 6x9 features a separate woofer, midrange, and tweeter for improved clarity and detail in the bass, midrange, and high registers.

Yes, if you could I like the 3-ways, my brother owns a pair of Planet Audio 6x9's and they are 3-way, those things can produce very clean sound given proper tuning to the amp or head unit.

Hi dude,
I'm Eddy just new in the hood! Just wanted to ask if we could replace a mini speaker inside the Nokia 6600, if so which one would it be as I have a good collection of tones and mp3 songs, so just need your help if you know about it. And if possible just the type and the output, and the size that it requires. I would really appreciate your speedy reply and help. Thanks.

You seem to know alot about the speakers. I have a problem and I hope you will assist. I want to buy 300watt 3-way speakers and an amplifier with a capacity of 400w (2x200w). The car radio has an output of 4x50w. My worry is that may be the functioning of the 3-way speakers doesnt require an amplifier. If I go ahead and buy these items, will I have a good output? or will I be able to use all the items I have mentioned?

I would adv if you want better sounds from your cell to get an external ear bud type of speaker as opening the phone and changeing the speaker would void the warrenty and may mess up your phone as there is a power limit to the speaker the device will push

I know this is WAY late in coming, but I used to work at a car stereo sales and installation store. The 300 watts that the speakers say are max power, not needed power, your head unit 50 watts is also max power, and your amplifier is also max. The head unit may do a fine job of pushing the speakers, but with three drivers in it, you may want the additional power of the amplifier. As long as the amplifier is not a class d amplifier it should work fine for what you want it for, but you will also want to know if your head unit's connection jacks in the back are set to for subwoofer or rear channel, or either/or. If it's set as a subwoofer, you will not get all the signal that you would need to run a full frequency speaker.
On a side note, underpowering a speaker will damage as quickly as overpowering it. A speaker is unlikely to blow, even if overpowered, provided the power you feed it is 'clean' or free from distortion. It's the distortion that blows your speakers. Always better to go with a better amplifier with less power, then a cheaper one with more.
One more thing on power ratings for head units and amplifiers. Typically these all run at 4ohms, but head units almost always advertise their power at 2ohms, which means you're only getting half, and amplifiers almost always advertise their power at 1ohm into one speaker, so depending on how many speakers you actually hook up to it, you may be only getting a quarter to an eighth of the power advertised.
Better to have 1 speaker fully powered, then 2 speakers half-powered. Cheaper too.
