All set. Turns out there are two types of data plans offered by Cingular, and they sold me the wrong plan. You need a Data Connect plan - a little more expensive, but allows the phone to be used as a modem.

Glad I could be there to not help! icon_wink.gif I guess if I used my phone as a modem, I would have been aware of the different plan...
