Hey, i've got a question, I live in the US, don't have a Canadian address, but I plan on travelling there alot, I was wondering if you can sign up for Rogers Pay As You Go prepaid with a US address? or if there are easier way to do it, or if you don't even need to put in an address for prepaid service?
Thanx, help appretiated greatly!

You can sign up, they shouldnt even require an address as its a pay up front kind of service. Whether they ask or not you should be fine.

So, i'm guessing if I call in and give them my IMEI and SIM that they can get me set up and that the over-the-air programming will work while i'm in the US as long as I am "roaming" on a compatible antenna? I have tried to sign up through the online activation but it only has a choice of Canadian provinces for your account address, I assume that doesn't nessisarily mean that I can't sign up, they just don't expect US people to activate online? I have called the Rogers Wireless number for the US and got the French division, so I just said I had the wrong number, but I guess that most representitives speak English as well? Thanx

I think you can't use your own SIM card from Cingular for Rogers. You have to buy a SIM card (for Pay As You Go) from Rogers and activate it. You have to have an unlocked GSM phone to use the Rogers SIM card. Besides, I think you have to activate it in Canada and not US as I don't think you can get Rogers signal in US. Anyway, it is best that you contact Rogers for details. May be try to contact them by email. Check their web site for contact information.

I think I have been misunderstood. I already know that I have to obtain a Rogers SIM card, I didn't ask that.
And I know as well that you can't directly pick up the Rogers signal in the US, but you can roam on AT&T of the US, the question was that if I activate it while i'm in the US, will the "over-the-air" programming that they send to my SIM durring activation work if I am roaming on the AT&T/Cingular US antenna?
And, how would I go about calling to activate my phone (or better yet emailing to activate) from the US and use an american address, I have already contacted customer support of rogers and they basically said that it didn't matter if I was american, I can still get a Pay As You Go account (it'll only work in Canada though, international roaming calls are disabled on Pay As You Go)

I see. I think Roaming is only possible after your account is activated and roaming enabled. Moreover, Rogers already said that roaming is disabled on Pay As You Go. Hence, I don't see the logic that you can activate your account by roaming in the States. Anyway, I think you better confirm that with Rogers.

i work for rogers video which is one of the rogers company leg's which sell rogers cell phones! u dont need id or anything at all to set up a pay as you go rogers cell phone! just give a fake address, the only use of the address is to sent you a letter every time they raise there prices so customers dont get mad! local calling is 40 cents per minute, long distance on a monthy plan is 30 cents per minutes, so it would atleast be that or more, so 70 cents minimum per minute for long distance, based on a "ANY TIME PLAN' on pay as you go, a sim card from rogers costs 25.00 before taxes, and of course you will have a American GSM phone which is unlocked, so there for the IMEI will not be in rogers wireless database so tell the cell rep to use the generic IMEI, if they dont know tell them to call "DIG" they will know what that is!
bottom line is you should go into a rogers store "rogers video/rogers plus" dont go to source by circuit city, they tend to suck so bad and will mess something up!

if you really want to call it in the general number for rogers is "1-888-ROGERS-1" BUT activating a pay as you go phone is one of the most annoying things in the world over the phone, in store is much faster! non the less when you call that number you will have to be transfered over and over again, unless the rep you first talk to is good, which is not always the case! call during business hours! rogers wireless is mostly 90% or more open 24 hr's a day and 365 days a year, but Rogers PayGo is a small department that isnt always open, atleast when i need to call them for my work related tasks! and make sure you get a phone number for the area in canada which u are going to be the most to make sure u are not paying long distance charges on incomming calls! good luck, just signed up to the forum for fireware flashing on a samsung p207, and will be on here frequently until i work my issue out, so will reply if you have any other questions about canadian wireless, more specificly rogers wireless
