ok, i think ive read every thread to try to figure out my problem, but here it is....

ive downloaded all the neccasary software to connect my e315 to my PC.
I am running XP, and when i insert the usb, the install managers comes up but it cannot find the correct driver.

ive looked at MANY posts, tried all links, tried a myriad of different drivers, but to no avail.

I bought a cable off of ebay, without software.

ANY help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks

yes, and it tells me to unplug my link, i do, wait 3 seconds and reconnect. the only options i have are skip, and cancell. the windows install pops up as well (and if i close it or try to install, it still doesent see the drivers)

then it just sits there, wheter i plug it in or not, with the skip or cancel button.

Please check Device Manager and check what is under Ports (COM & LPT)?

What happened when you run the PL-2303 Driver Installer.exe? By the way, I think you have to plug in your usb cable first before you run the above file.

it just says the standard com1, lpt1.

also, ive tried both unplugging and plugging in the cable when installing.

however, it does (in the device manager) have a "?" next to "Other devices" (USB_UART Tx Line)

when i install, i get an error. "cannot install this hardware because the wizard cannot find the neccasary hardware"

I think you better uninstall the item with "?". Right click on that line and select uninstall to remove that line from the Other Devices on Device Manager.

When you plug in the cable again, your computer will ask for driver installation. Select cancel.

Then run the installer file you downloaded earlier and see if the same error pop up this time. If so, it could be that your cable is the wrong one or a defective one.

If everything is successful, you should see Prolific USB to Serial bridge (COM3) under Ports (COM & LPT) on Device Manager.

Forgot to ask, is your cable a brand or no name one? If it is a no name one, is there any label on the cable? If yes, what is marked on the label?
