I have been a loyal ATTWS cust for years, of course they no longer exist. I currently have a Nokia 3650. I really want to upgrade my phone AND I also want to keep my current rate plan. I have 1200 anytime minutes and 2 phones for $59.99. Cingular will not do it. I have to migrate and then switch to one of their plans with half as many minutes for the same price. Yet if I want to cancel my contract I must pay $175 for each line!

Isn't it "funny" that they own my account enough to charge me if I cancel but when I want to upgrade my phone it isn't their account and I must migrate. I am so frustrated. I went to a Cingular store today and the rep there called the "Save" as in save customers line and I was told that and I quote that Cingular didn't care if I cancelled my contract.

Anyone know of anyway to get an upgrade to my phone w/o switching plans? Why can't Cingular just give me my same rate under one of their contracts?

Yes my phone is GSM. If I buy another providers phone unlocked already, say on ebay...can I just then take the sim out of my old phone and put it in the new one and it will work???

If you get an unlocked phone on Ebay be careful make sure that the seller has more than one phone, and that the seller specializes in selling phones. If you need help setting up the phone please let me know. I have done this for many people.

I feel your pain ppbw1211. ALL I WANT IS A NEW PHONE! I am in exactly the same situation. I have talked to Cingular store reps, Cingular reps, ATT reps, and even the "save" department that you mentioned above. I have actually spoken with 2 "save" reps and after explaining my situation one of them actually told me to look on eBay!! I said to him "do you realize that what you are telling me is that rather than letting me keep my current plan which includes promotions that were added through the life of my account, you are telling me to seek a handset from a 3rd Party vendor and effectively decrease your companies revenue (however small, but not a habit I would get into as a company) and leaving a very bad taste in my mouth?" The guy was speechless. I currently have the following on my GSM AMERICA NATIONAL $39.99 plan:
50 ADD'L ANYTIME MIN
UNLIM MOBL TO MOBL
UNLIMITED N/WKND MIN
EARLY EVENING N/WKND
200 ADD'L ANYTME MIN

All of which I will lose if my plan in migrated to Cingular. They offered me a "promotional plan" of 1000 anytime minutes at the current rate I am paying now ($39.99). I kindly explained several times to several people that just because I want a new phone does not mean that I am interested in changing my plan. To hear the other side of the plan I asked the "save" rep what they could do for me if I migrated my plan over and accepted the "promotional" plan they were offering. She told me that they would give me a 47.00 credit (yeah, kind of a random number) on my next bill. I told her that it was worth me buying a phone through a 3rd party rather than change my plan and ultimately pay a lot more for the same service. After checking with a supervisor she said there was nothing else they could offer me. GREAT "SAVE"!

ppbw1211, If you ever figure out a resolution to your issue drop me a line and let me know.
