I have a V551 and am using MPT ver 3.23
I am using Bluetooth to connect the two.
I can do everything with Mobile Phone Tools except get it to connect my laptop to the internet.
It gives me the following error message, inside a WinXP error dialog box:

A connection to the remote computer could not be established, so the port used for this connection was closed. For further assistance click More Info, or search Help and Support Center for this error number.

The GPRS network connection could not be established, make sure the GPRS network is available and that you have subscribed to the GPRS option.

I am signed up for Cingular's unlimited media package...and everything else they offer. The symbols on my phone indicate I'm on GPRS (at least I'm pretty sure they indicate as such). I'm currently in Utica, NY and phone notifies me of voice mail, works great, and I can use the phone's built in browser to connect to internet.

I get that error message I typed in above right after it goes thru the following steps while trying to connect to the internet using MPT (as indicated by the following status messages inside a dialog box titled "Connection to Cingular GPRS" as it's trying to connect):

Open Port
then,
GPRS Setup
then,
Connecting
then,
Verification of user name and password
then I get that error message I listed towards top of this post.

If I go to "setup", "internet connections.." from within MPT, I have a window that shows Internet Connections. There are two icons, add new connection and Cingular GPRS. If I right click on the Cingular GPRS icon and select "Properties", then select the "Identification" tab, it shows spaces to type in a user name and password. The username and password spaces were/are already filled in. I have not changed them. The user name is:
WIXDC001@W5.MYCINGULAR.COM
The password is hidden from view (just a series of dots).

Do you think the problem is an incorrect user name and password? How did MPT come up with this default user name and password (I assume they're defaults, as I never changed them). I don't think it's due to an incorrect UN and PW as the final error message doesn't refer to that.

Sorry for the long post, but wanted to provide as much detail as I could to avoid having to answer follow-on questions.

Thanks for any help.

P.S. Have others gotten their's to work?

Thanks, I'll give that a try.
Also, I assume I have to be enrolled in a data rate plan as well (not just a MEdia plan)?

Thank you duceduc!

I just got my RAZR to act as a modem for my laptop by following your directions. I have the latest version of MPT (3.25b). I had to set "APN:" to blank. It was ISP.CINGULAR.

Thanks again.
