I am an ATT GSM Holdout. My ATT GSM multi phone contract is better than what I can get with Cingular. The conversion fees and higher charges for the additional lines (2 additional) made it worth sticking with my current ATT agreement (dunno how long Cingular will honor it). Further, I recieve a lot of text alerts and they are unlimited no charge in my ATT plan, where Cingular wants me to buy a limited Text Messaging package. I never hit my 800 minute ceiling, so roll over was not tempting.

Now, I wanted new phones, so I bought unlocked Moto V551 & 2 Moto T720i. They work fine with the ATT SIMs. I have learned to manually select the Network Setting to pick up the Cingular Towers in my area since they are better reception than ATTs (now both read Cingular on the phones). I understand the ATT Sim searches for the ATT Tower first (Cingular 'Blue') even if they are not the stronger signal of the 2 Cingular signals. So manually set to read Cingular Towers seems to be working in my local area.

Seems like I am best to stay put as is for now. But I wonder how long Cingular will tolerate us 'Holdouts'? icon_cry.gif

Cingular tells me I MUST take a Cingular Contract to get the Cingular 64K Sim cards? Any reason why I cannot continue to use my ATT 32K? I figure if Cingular decides not to support the ATT SIMs, they must supply new SIMs?

I never use the browser on my V551, but it is set to the Cingular Browser (and therefore does not connect). If I want to download ring tones, am I correct that I would have to get the Browser set to Mmode? Is Cingular switching to Mmode as the browser of choice?

Any insights for us "Holdouts" would be appreciated. My contract agreement is satisfied shortly, and it may be time to shop TMobile if Cingular continues to bully me.

BTW, my GSM Family plan is $39.99 & $9.99 (X 2 additional lines) for 800 minutes, Nights & Weekends, Unlimited Caller to Caller, Unlimited Text Alerts (I never text message, just recieve alerts).

Thanks!!! icon_w00t.gif

I am also an ATT holdout. However, I need to add a new line to my plan. Getting a phone is not a problem, but cingular refuses to add a line to the ATT plan that I have. Firstly, the ATT family plan I am on is much cheaper and better than the cingular plans, and I refuse to pay the ridiculous migration charge for each of my current 3 lines. Does anyone know of a way I can get around this and still add a line to my existing plan. This merger has been a real pain so far.

you can add a line to your existing rate plan ...you cannot change your anchor plan (ie bump up in price to get more minutes)
call the add a line depratment (800) 844-5175... they cannot and will not change your anchor plan

I called that number, and they still stated that I would have to migrate to Cingular in order to add another line to my existing service plan (meaning I would have to switch to a more expensive plan and pay those stupid migration fees). These guys do not make this easy, I don't understand why they would expect AT&T customers to pay fees per line to switch over to Cingular, it should all be free in my opinion.
