Ok, so im changing service providers beacuse I can get a plan from Nextel for $10 a month (family friend who works as a manager).

So i would be switching from Verizon > Nextel, I know there is a $150 charge for canceling the contract, is there any way to get out of this?

Im selling the phone to a friend, and asked him to take over the payments, can I do this so that he can keep his current number? He also has verizon but wants to keep his number but get a new phone (my VX7000).

If theres anything I could do, please let me know.

Also, when I get nextel I want to port my number (if he can switch his), then does he take the phone to Verizon and get them to setup it up for him?

Thanks!

I believe you actually set up an account with Nextel with the phone number you wish to transfer, and the Verizon account will automatically be cancelled. In fact, cancelling Verizon, and than going to Nextel I believe will result in the inability to transfer your number. That's how it works with home phones, but I'm sure a Nextel rep would be happy to assist you with this.
And no, there its fairly impossible to escape an early cancel fee, sorry.

Hello, I'm new to this forum and not very sure if I am doing this right. But after reading your statement. I am sure I am making the right decison to change provider too. Verizon has left me very unhappy at this time. Every time I have tried to contact them I get the runaround. I seriously thinking of choosing a prepay and leave this calling plan thing alone. The family plan seemed like the best way to go when I started. I have a kid in college and we could talk as often as we liked on the family share plan. But the plan had a few financial changes which I was not made aware of and still being charged as if they did not exist. Not to mention the services area problems. I am in southern Illinois and my kid is in the northern area of the state. He can't get a reliable signal for more than 5- 6 minutes, so the cells are usless for us. I don't know if the prepay are any better, but I think it will be cheaper.
Thanks for the ear.

I might have a few questions for you. Since I work for Verizon, my position covers the midwest (including Illinois) and I even work in this state. I have quite a bit of tech support experience and am very good at billing issue questions.

That being said; you stated that the plan had a few financial changes. Since we don't change plans you signed up for in the middle of any contract (we only make them obsolete), what was the change?

Second, where are you in Illinois? (both you and your kid) I have a pretty strong familiarity with Iliinois coverage and might be helpful in answering some questions.

Thought I'd give it a shot.

I am in Cairo and he in in Park Forest. The problem I'm having is the family share plan has changed to 59.00 a month and I am paying that plus an additional 20.00 for his line. I would have expected when the plan changed current subscribers would be included in this benefit. But according to my last bill, no. icon_squint.gif

I appreciate the quick follow up.

As for the new family plans, the ones with the first 2 line at 59.99 and 9.99 for each additional line. It's new and promotional with extra minutes. I am assuming that is the plan your talking about. In pder to get the benefit of the plan, you do have to request the plan change and it may affect your contract. It depends on where your contract is in the term cycle. We don't change plans immediately because the extra minutes could affect your contract and honestly, people somethimes don't want the change dispite it being better...strange, I realize, but true.

As for coverage, in Cairo, thats going to be tough going. If I'm not mistaken, that's nearly the point where Illinois, Kentucky and Missouri meet. That's right at that little, correct? The problem you will have is that since the FCC requires that carriers cannot send signal across a border of any state, we've (and all carriers) have to do this little coverage tap dance to make sure that is done right. So, depending on tower placement around your town, you might get spotty service in one spot and great in another.

Park Forest, though, should be pretty good since it in the Chicagoland area. This one we'd want to look to see if it's happeneing specifically in one area or in multiple areas. If it's 'all over', then it's the phone. If it's specific to al ocation such as a house/apartment but elswhere is great, then we'd want to do a trouble ticket for the area.

If you'd like, I wouldn't mind looking into these personally. I wouldn't, of course, ask for your info over the net. However, if you call the 800-922-0204 customer service number and ask to have an e-mail sent to Jeff Swanson, I will get back you you within a day or so (I work mon - fri 10:30-7 so it would be within that time frame). Bluntly, I'm pretty good at figuring things out fro folks. Even though I'm no longer in our consuler account area but take care of our larger corporate customer, I still can do something like this. Call and let me know if I can help.

icon_smile.gif I called verizon one last time and to my surprise I got to talk to a person who was paying attention to what I was saying. I got my issue resolved, even though the tower problem still exist. But it may be our phones and not the connection. The phones r two yrs old and it's probably time to upgrade. But again, thank u and I'll be keeping your number for the future, because, blue skys and smooth sailing aren't forever.
