you can now remove the banner using "Bitpim" and "Winhex"(Google it, Download it)

Step 1 - go to the "Filesystem" tab in Bitpim, scroll down until you see "ERI", save that "ERI BIN"

Step 2 - Make a copy of your original Bin for safekeeping, and right click the one you want to modify, open with "Winhex"

Step 3 - you will see a bunch of code, and the right column will show "Verizon WirelessA Verizon Wireless B.....etc..." now you can actually click on those letters and change them, not the "A and B" at the end of verizon wireless. you can change them to spaces making the banner Be gone!!!

Step 4 - After choosing your Custimized Banner, whether it be blank, or "GETITNOWSUX" go to "File" click on "Save As" save it somewhere you know.

Step 5 - go back into "Bitpim" into the "Filesystem" and into the "ERI bin" Location, Right click, Choose "Overwrite" and then select the BIN you Just Modified.

Step 6 - Restart Phone, Vualla!!! Banner Be Gone

P.S. - a number of LG phones this can be done to, i have done it with the vx-6000, vx-7000, vx-8000, vx6100, and i have heard of many others!

DO AT YOU OWN RISK OF POSSIBLE DAMAGE TO YOUR PHONE!!!!!

Well,
My post here was one of the deleted ones icon_surprised.gif

Here's the question.....

How do ya open the ERI BIN w/ Winhex?

I think I may have messed up by saving a changed ERI BIN as a word document, but didn't "Save As" after overwriting through BitPim.
(The phone's still working after repowering up, luckily!!!!)

I'm sick of the V~W banner and got to get it off the phone !!!

Thanks for any help.

After saving the Original ERI to a folder, all you have to do is "Right Click" on the ERI.BIN file and "Open With" or "Choose program to open with" Option

Thanks for getting back to me Nytroman.
When I open the ERI BIN from "File System" in BitPim, it's still showing as what I changed it to from the word document.
This is the first couple of lines.....

00000000 d0 cf 11 e0 a1 b1 1a e1 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................
00000010 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 3e 00 03 00 fe ff 09 00 ........>.......

Nothing like it was at first !!

Do you know if I right click on ERI (not eri bin) and click restore, should it go back to what it was?

Are you the one who had the original file available to email?

Thanks again.

now if only someone could come up with a way to change the logo on phones that use sim cards (would require a sim reader and software of course)

Bump for Nytroman,

Do you know if I right click on ERI (not eri bin) and click restore, should it go back to what it was?

I did save the original, but it's not as a bin file, it's in Word, so I can still manually input the info if need be through BitPim.

Are you the one who had the original bin file available to email?

Thanks again.

Sorry about the delay, you want to "Right Click" on the "ERI.BIN" if you choose restore, it will probably ask you for a Restore point, or file. So your going to want an original ERI, i have the original ERI for a 7000, a friend of mine has a 6100 ERI file, i'll try and get it for you. in the meantime, you can try and change your original ERI from word back to a bin....try right clicking on the ERI file, go to properties, then change the program that it opens with from word, to Winhex....that might work for you..in the meantime, my address is Nytroman@gmail.com hope this helps!
P.s. - If and when i get the ERI file, i can modify it to your liking, and then all you would need to do is overwrite it to your phone using bitpim icon_biggrin.gif

EDIT: well, i have been thinking about it, my buddy said that the ERI file might consist of actual activation hpone crap....meaning if 2 of the same ERI are used it would be no good, i never thought of that, and i could be wrong, so to be on the safe side, send me your ERI file, and i'll convert it to your liking, and i'll send it back for you icon_smile.gif
