I spent an hour with Samsung trying to resolve the photo upload issue. They verified the problem on their test platform. The 'final' explanation is that the E317 has partitioned memory and EasyGPRS can only write to the 'My Media' partition and not the photo partition. Apparently only the phone camera ‘knows’ how to write to the photo memory. Thus a jpeg from the PC can be used as wallpaper, but not as a call ID. (Editorial follows) It's beyond me why Samsung who has control over both the phone firmware and the EasyGPRS software refuses to 'fix' this! The only solution they could offer was to buy a P777 phone! When did it become acceptable for software to work with some random subset of the documented and advertised features? Also, it seems that this is not the only Samsung phone that suffers from this problem. It should be obvious that the ability to upload photos for caller ID is a very desirable capability. One often has pictures on their PC of friends and family and are unable to get a picture with the phone itself because of proximity, and if a phone is damaged or stolen Samsung has left the user with no way to back up his caller ID photos. Finally, for EasyGPRS to just not function (the UPLOAD button never lights) without an error or information message is just plain bad programming that costs Samsung in unnecessary support calls.

I just discovered this too with e300. I was also unable to upload the mmf file with the software. Works only with WAP. Does anyone know a solution to this maybe?
I'm starting to get really with the Samsung.
Does anyone know, is there ANY other software that is capable of accessing multimedia data on this types of phones? I would really love to put some other small applications up instead of useless games, but without the need of uploading it to server and downloading it through service provider (if not necessary...).
Any help would be GREATLY appriciated, or will I have to start looking for other mobile phones? And by the way, any suggestions of best-modifyable mobile phones would come in handy
Regards

You could try Pims and File Manager I believe thats what a skabron was trying to say, its downloadable from www.samsung.co.uk As far as most modifyable phone I would say the Motorola V600 (its definately athe most fun!)

It's interesting how EasyGPRS has disappeared from all the Samsung sites However, I've dowloaded the current PC Studio II & File Manager for the e317 and it does not work for photo uploads either. The UPLOAD button never lights. Also the 'Live Update' feature under the HELP menu no longer works for either application. A 'Fail to connect' error message is displayed. A TCP/IP trace shows that upgrade.samsungmobile.com (203.254.223.70) never answers the connect from the application.

Go to File Manager, expand My Phone and you should see different folders like My Photo, Sounds and Pictures. All the downloading and uploading are now done within File Manager. I see the same thing as yours for Live Update.

Yes, File Manager in general works, but if you try and upload a JPEG to the photo folder of the phone, the UPLOAD button won't light and no error messages are displayed.

I am afraid that you can't upload a picture to the My Photo folder as it is reserved for build in camera only. You can only upload 128x128 pixels or smaller pictures to Pictures folder only. It is a drawback of the phone as upload pictures can only be used as wallpaper but not picture caller ID.
I forgot that you have already mentioned about this in your first post.
