Forgive me if this doesn't make sense, but bear w/ me while I try to explain.

I received an offer in the mail to get 100$ off of a new phone if I resigned my contract w/ Verizon. Soooooo we go to the Verizon store where we originally got our phone and last contract. They will not honor this 100$ offer icon_sad.gif They said b/c they are a "retailer" not a Verizon store itself. I am not sure of the rules exactly here about posting names and links so I'll refrain for now. But ..all they sell there are cell phones and such! Not like a Radio Shack or anything. It's not a kiosk, it's a store store. Soooooo I compare the phone prices. From the store the LG VX 6100 is 99$ and they offer a 50$ rebate. So out of pocket would be 49$ as they will not honor the voucher. So I call the verizon number on the voucher and they say the phone is 149$ and they offer the same 50$ rebate but PLUS the 100$ voucher it's free(after rebate). SIlly how a phone can be 50$ cheaper one way or the other.

Here is my dilemma. I hear people say ordering the cell phone over the phone is a no-no(possibilities of having to return phone and getting good service..). My hubby doesn't want to pay for a new phone if we can get one for free(as we could over the phone). Is this problem w/ the voucher a common one? Should I get the phone at the store here locally or should I go ahead and order over the 1800#?

I am assuming w/ my area(SE Indiana) I need to get a trimode phone so if you all think going to the store is the way to go, what phone alternative would you recommend?

I'd say the V710. It is tri-mode and the best reception you can get. However, there is an "old" version and "new" version. The old version is very buggy, while the new really straightened the phone up. The 710 however is being discontinued since the release of the Moto E815 is coming probably sometime mid July but it is all digital. As far as Verizon goes, you don't have much selection in the way of Tri-mode phones. Here is the list of tri modes currently available:
1. Moto V710
2. Moto V265
3. LG VX4700
4. LG VX3200
5. Nokia 6015i
6. Samsung SCH-A650
7. Moto T300
8. Kyocer KX1
9. Moto V60, 65

What phone you want largely depends on the features you need (camera, PTT, etc.) If you just need a reliable phone without the bells and whistles I suggest the Nokia 6015i. If you would like a camera but still want a phone that will hold a strong signal, I'd say the Moto V710 or V265. Hope this helps.

Honestly, I was looking more for of a suggestion of where I should get my phone from. Do you think it's not a good idea to order it thru Verizon on the phone...or should I go to a "dealer"? You posted suggestions on what I should get if I go w/ the store way...so I assume you think it's a good idea to buy thru them?

lol, he knows what hes talkin about icon_neutral.gif

6100 is a tri-mode phone too, lol

As far as where to buy it, getting it through customer care is going to be the same as getting it from a corporate store. You'll get a new in the box 6100. My personal preference would be to go to the corporate store though, just so you have the human interaction. The sales reps at my store always take the receipt, highlight it, explain it, so you understand your bill (that is if you make a contract change). They'll also be able to answer questions and show you live demonstrations of the phone.

As far as price goes. It is listed at the $149.99 at my store, then you get the $50 mail in rebate. So you would be looking at $50 out of the store after the $100 New Every 2 credit is applied. But then you send your rebate in, and the phone in of itself, becomes free.

Hope this helps

it does a bit...this 100$ voucher is not part of the new every two that I can see...I've not signed up for it(new every 2) before, so I assume this is just a "special" offfer. It says in appreciation for being a long time customer...I am very frustrated at the price differences! I WILL be signing up for the new every two but I assume I won't get THAT 100$ break(thru the store) until the NEXT time?

New every two is a reward for being a long time customer. If you signed up for a 2 year contract previously, and you have a price plan higher then $35, you would be eligible for NE2. At 22 months of your 24 month contract is when you become eligible for the $100 credit. Since i dont know what your contract/price plan is at, i was going with NE2. If im wrong, and they are just giving you $100 voucher, then it would pretty much be the same thing anyways.

The VZW website shows the 6100 at $149 with the $50 rebate as well. Same as my store. So I dont know if the indirect dealer is able to offer it cheaper or what the story is.

icon_sad.gif Lordy things can get complicated! The paper says "in recognition of your loyalty, get up to 100$ off the price of any new hone when you renew your Customer Agreement for an additional two years on Calling plans 34.99 or higher. Please visit any Verizon Wireless Communications Store or call us at 1800...(blah blah).." so..If I go to a store it has to be a "corporate" store? There are none in my town and if I go to one who is "nearby"(read that as at least 45 miles away)...I get the lecture of "the phone number will be long distance if you call it from your home" thing. So I buy locally (non corporate) and the phone is local..why is it so difficult?! It'd be nice if I could use it there instead of ordering on the phone. I have the 34.99 plan right now...and don't use all the minutes (only gone over 2 times in 5 years). So...I dunno if that helps clarify what is going on or not.

Also, I'm leaning towards the 6100(yes, I knew it was trimode)...but I am hearing by 2007 everything will be all digital(but w/ the new every two I'll sign up for..I"ll get a new phone anyway and could go to all digital phone at that point).

I am a bit worried b/c I've read the 6100 has had a lot of returns by customers. I've SEEN the phone itself and really like it. I just want something that functions properly. I don't necessarily NEED the camera and probably won't use it very much. Is it better that I just go for a more plain phone w/out the camera? Do I sound blonde?! icon_cry.gif

analog is technology of the past. Much like black and white tvs when color tvs came out, analog is slowly being phased out.

Choosing between a tri-mode or all digital phone depends on where you live, do you travel, is there alot of rural area where your traveling, etc.

A corporate or communications store, whatever you want to call it, is a strictly Verizon wireless store, owned and operated by VZW.

It sounds to me that going through customer care will probably be your best bet. They'll be able to get the phone you need, with the number you need, and you wont have to worry about any of those lectures.

The 6100 is a great phone. I had it for a week before we had a special offer on the 7000, so i used my worry free guarantee and swaped it out for the 7000. Being the technician at my store, the 6100 is probably one of the phones i see people having the least amount of problems with. LG or Samsung are what i would recommend.

Thank you so much for being patient with me! icon_wub.gif I called the Verizon store that is nearest to me after reading this (about 40 miles west of us) and they told me the ONLY way to get this deal is to go thru the 1800# ....sooooo I'll be doing that tomorrow. I was informed that I would be able to bring the phone to the store for any problems so that reassures me greatly. The lady was very nice and I hope the store reps are just as nice as she was(and you are!) icon_razz.gif I talked to the lady who lives in a slightly rural place and said she LOVES having her trimode phone. She lives in a similar area but works in the city and said the analog does kick on when she is traveling around where she lives. This is very similar area to ours so I am going to go ahead with the trimode yet...in 2 years if the digital network is what they hope it will be..I'll go w/ the all digital phone. I wanted to thank you for your extreme patience w/ my blondeness..lol. I hope I don't need much help with my new phone but feel very comfortable coming back to these forums and asking. icon_w00t.gif

No problem, glad i could help

One more piece of advice for you. I dont know if you run into alot of roaming areas where you are or not, but i'd take a look at the new Americas Choice plans that VZW is offering that includes no roaming charges. Since your resigning a contract as it is to get the phone, no time like the present to change your plan. With one of those plans, its pretty much as basic as either you get signal, or you dont. Even if it says roaming and the indicator is on, you wont get charged, which is great for rural areas.
