Ok.so. GSM is TDMA, but a specific kind of TDMA. It requires a sim card to program the mobile number to the handset. Regular TDMA does not (its done over the air to a chip built into the handset). The wireless interfaces for both GSM and TDMA are identical except for the frequency used. They can both run on the same frequencies, but thats all up to the spectrum that is owned by the carrier deploying it. Lower frequencies penetrate dense objects (like a brick wall) more than higher frequencies. The trade off is voice quality. The higher the frequency, the better the voice quality, but it will not go through walls as well as the lower frequency lower voice quality frequencies. Hope this helps.

?

there are a lot more differences in the 2 technologies

the only commonality is the frequency 850 and 1900 MHZ

how the signal is processed and routed is a completely different animal

it is pretty simple . t mobile doesnt get good service in your school because GSM sucks. i have suncom. its GSM.The GSM signal doesnt bounce around as well as CDMA or TDMA. there for, it doest work as well in the mountains. or anywhere something is in the way. leaves on trees in the summer time effect it as well. people tend to think that GSM is "better" because the rest of the world uses it. well the only thing "better" about GSM is data transfers are faster, but that doest really matter if you cant get a signal. GSM is also cheaper to maintain. that is the only reason cell phone companys are leaning to GSM. because it costs them less money. and they make more $$$$$$
Well You got things way backwards. rofl! ok for one gsm is tdma. two cdma data transfer is WAY FASTER THAN ANY GSM TECHNOLOGY. PERIOD! my sprint Data EVDO gets 2 or 3 megs downstream which rivals dsl speeds, while EDGE, the fastest gsm tech only gets 200 KBPS, Which Is 10 - 15 Times slower than evdo. and lastly, cdma towers are cheaper to build and maintain, which iswhy there is more cdma coverage in america. now the reason gsm is so popular in europe is because it was implemented first, and they actually mass produced cell towers to replace europe's horrible land line service. also there are no patents on gsm as qualcomm owns many patents on cdma. and to answer the op the reason tmorbid doesn't penetrate buildings well is because it is running on 1900MHZ Band Only while sprint and other carriers run on other frequencies, not sure about other companies but sprint uses both 850 And 1900 MHZ. The Lower Frequency Penetrates The Building Better But Has Lower Voice Quality And Can Handle Less Calls.
