I have a D500 and an infrared connection on my laptop. I understand I need to download a Samsung programme in order to transfer music, images, etc between the two. What programme do I need to do this? The only one I could fine was PIMS & File Manager 1.0 from http://uk.samsungmobile.com/mobile_phone/manual.jsp?curr_page=2
However, it is 45mb, and I only connect at 56k, and get disconnected from the net after 2hrs (due to ISP)! Does anyone know where I can find a smaller version of the file, or perhaps a zipped copy?

Your help is appreciated!

Yes, that is the problem with Dial Up. You need a program that help to reconnect the connection and resume download from where it stops. Have you ever heard "Download Manager"? Do a google search for download manager and it should solve your problem.

There is ver 2.0 of File and PIM Manager that I downloaded.
Installed it successfully. However, when I click "Help" nothing seems to happen.
How to actual transfer my address book between phone and my laptop is a problem for me.
Can anyone guide.

To open PIMS & File Manager Help, you should either press F1 or click Help - Help Contents.

Thats the least one could do. But help window did not open through both these actions. I guess may be some problem with installation.

The big question is:

How do I trasfer my phonebook from the phone to PIMS & File Manager?? Need to know the mechanics of working this.

When you have installed everything correctly including PIMS & File Manager and the necessary driver for your cable / IrDA / Bluetooth (depending on which one you planned to use), your phone should link with your PC and the status bar on PIMS window should display your model number instead of offline. If it is good, the phonebook should be downloaded automatically and be shown on the PIMS window.

Have you tried the latest version of S/W SGH-D500 PIMS & File manager (ver.1.0) from Samsung:

Do I need to download some kind of driver for infrared (particular to D500).

Although PIMS does not recognized D500 but there is infrared connection established between PC and D500. Actually in the status bar I can right click infrared icon and transfer files from laptop to D500.

Why is PIMS not working ???

Have you change the Ports in File - setup to IrDA? It is COM1 by default.

Ports drop box has no option. It is like an inactive box.

When I go to setup of PIM File Manager and then choose setup it brings up a dialog box that has port option in the "connect area". But there is nothing to choose from this.
