Hey, I just signed up to ask a few questions about the vx8100. I got my vx6000 about 3 years ago and it has turned into a POS so I'm looking at new phones for verizon. I've done alot of research and although I'm probably getting the vx8100, I was looking at the E815 also. Overall which is going to be better? Which one takes better pictures, because I actually use my phone as my main camera. I also noticed aol isnt mentioned under the chat options. Can somebody that has the phone already, tell me if this phone can use aim. My last question is about price and buying one. How much is retail because I dont think I can do the 2 year agreement deal. So I'm probably buying one off ebay. Can I just buy one or do I have to worry about it being locked? I dont know much about that, so how do I tell if it's unlocked or not, and once it gets here can I just take it to my verizon store and they will activate it? Thanks for answering my questions.

Is it true that the 8000 has better pic quality then the 8100 because of the sensor?
If it does, I have not noticed it. I just got it about 1 hour ago, so maybe that is too soon to judge.

Interesting, you have a 8100? I talked with Verizon today, customer service, and she looked up on her computer and said that they didn't have any in stock yet. I've had my LG 6100 for about two years now, it's been a great phone, but it is now time to trade up. The 8100 looks good, but I'd still like to find one, just to see it in person before I lay out the cash.

As for the LG 8100, it appears that at least, one person has actually received one of them. But, when I ask Verizon customer service, or at one of their stores, they tell me that they have no idea when this will be available. Supposedly, it is available, but where? And at what cost? I live in Iowa, you know, fly over land, so maybe we are being punished for last Novemer yet. Any ideas

I talked to my local Verizon rep in the Kansas City area yesterday and he said that he already has the LG 8100 in his store, but they are not allowed to sell them until Friday, July 15th. He also told me that he has playes with one and he thinks they are a great phone, but they have been Bluetooth casterated just like the Motorola V710. The 8100 will cost $199.99 and then have a $50 mail in rebate for an actual cost of $149.99. I plan on getting one on Friday, but I am very disappointed with Verizon and their decision to disable most of the Bluetooth features so they can make a little more money selling what should have come with the phone already at no extra charge. It is like buying a new luxury car and the dealer making the manufacture weld the trunk lid shut so that the dealer can sell his customer additional trailers to carry their groceries and what nots in. And Verizon advertizes that they care about their customers. icon_lol.gif I wonder if someone could purchase a LG 8100 somewhere with all the features enabled and then sign up with a carrier without a contract. It might cost a little more, but in the long run, maybe all these cell phone service providers might get the idea that their customers don't want to be nickeled and dimed to death for every little thing.

When you said it's $199.99, is that with the 2 year deal? Can someone explain to me exactly how that works. I want the phone, but I'm not sure I want it $400.00+ worth. Or so I've heard will be the retail price with no deal.

Just one thing to keep in mind. I got mine yesterday, and it turns out you can't use it as a modem -- Verizon doesn't have a way to separate a EV-DO from the regular EN connection, and VZW refuses to let you have a $70 data connection for free, so they disabled the dialup ability. Cancelling VCAST (thereby killing EV-DO access....right?) might fix the problem (I haven't tried that yet), but otherwise, it's JUST a phone, and nothing else.

I went into a Verizon store today (7/14), and they didnt have any info about the 8100. Then went to Radio Shack, they had no idea either, but claimed the E815 was just recalled by Motorola. That was a real shocker. Went back to Verizon and asked someone about the E815; he claimed there was a problem with it, but they simply upgraded the firmware of something and no recall. Apparently it wasnt much of a problem so he didnt know what the RS morons were talking about.

Then went to Circuit City. The girl there actually knew about the 8100, but claimed that it wont be out for at least another 7-10 days, maybe longer. <sigh> It would be really nice if these people could get their act together. They all sell Verizon, but they all get differing (or no) info. Kinda makes it hard to select a phone.

Can anyone really say the 8100 is better than the E815? I really took a liking to that one.
