Here is a little treat for all you people that want mp3 ringtones on your LG Vx8100. You DON'T need a data cable. You just need bluetooth connectivity on your pc/laptop. You need two free programs. First is Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ . This is so you can take any music you have and cut it into a 20second or so file for the ringtone. Next you need BitPim http://www.bitpim.org . This gets the info to the phone. I have successfully placed several ringtones and wallpapers on my vx8100. You can also edit your phonebook and oher stuff too. If anyone needs help intalling/configuring/using either program, just let me know, i'll be happy to help.

| Quote: | I was able to get my BlueTooth Laptop to connect to my VX-8100 and be "seen" by BitPIM. I was able to download my contacts to BitPIM. Now, I want to get mp3's over to the phone, but do not know how to do this. I do not have a MiniSD card yet, but it seems like I do have some internal memory to play with. How do I transfer MP3's and JPG's to the phone?
Thanks for the help.

Sorry it took so long to reply, I was out of town.
Ok, guys, Copy the mp3's out of your miniSD onto your computer, the ringers dont go there. Then get Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ ) You need to cut the file down to a 30 second clip to use as a ringtone. I Don't suggest you use the whole song as the ringer as you will only hear the first 25-30 seconds and it takes up space. Load the mp3 file into Audacity and use the toolbar to select the 30 seconds that you want as the ringer, discard the rest and save as different file name(make sure its still .mp3) After you have all the ringers you want to transfer, open Bitpim. (http://www.bitpim.org) Make sure that in bitpim settings you have the right COM Port # for the phone (you can use serial or usb data cable or bluetooth connection if your computer is bluetooth enabled). Now in Bit Pim click the Ringers Tab. (make sure the program window is not Fullscreen) Open the folder on your computer that contains the ringtones you want to put on the phone, and drag ONE FILE into the ringers box in BitPim. When you do this a box will open with conversion settings. set New Type to MP3, Sample Rate 44100 (good sound quality) Channels 2 (if you want stereo, The VX8100 has two speakers) and Bitrate to 128 (this is good quality and not too big file size). Now click Convert and wait a sec. The bottom half of the box will now be usable. Here you can adjust the volume to make it louder ( I usually bump mine up about 3-5 db, I like them loud) and click Set. Now you can Click play to hear it before it goes to the phone. When satisfied with the volume level click OK. Now the file will be in the ringers part of BitPim. Repeat the process of dragging files and converting. When you are all done and ready to finish click DATA, then Send Phone Info. checkmark the Ringtone box and make sure next to it ADD is selected EVERYTIME you add more ringers!! If Replace is selected, you will lose EVERYTHING! Ok, Now click OK and sit back as your new ringers are installed to the phone. If you have any other questions regarding this or editing your ringtones, post at my personal forum www.sysop-x.com, I check that very often (like every 15 miutes or so)

I just looked on radio shack' websit, i don't think they carry it. Search ebay for"LG VX8100 data cable". I found numerous results. They run about $10 including shipping.($3 for the cable-$7 to ship)
Just read the item discription to make sure it says compatible with 8100. Or you can go to radioshace/walmart and get a bluetooth dongle for around $20. I have a BT dongle for my PC and it works great for the 8100 and bitpim. Whichever you decide on, let me know if you have any issues editing your music for ringers and uploading them to your phone, I have been making my own rings for several phones (LG, MOTO, Sony Ericcson)for a while now.

Hi Eric,
So ypur PC BT settings gave the phone com ports 3 & 4, ok the one you need to use is the outgoing (4). Go to BitPim Settings and change the comport.
Under "Edit, Settings" change Comport value to "com4" no spaces or "". Also in the phone go to
"Menu, Settings and Tools, Bluetooth, Paired Devices". Scroll down to the name of your PC. If it says PORT DISABLED under the connection, just hit the left softkey to enable the port on the phone. After these two things are done you should have no problems, but if you do, just let me know.
P.S. I an a master at custom Ringers. If anyone has a request for a certain part of a song or movie, just post at Sysop-X.com. I'll do it for FREE right away. here's a sample from SouthPark S1"Scot Tenorman Must Die" http://www.sysop-x.com/sounds/piggycartman.mp3
