If your computer is using windows XP you will have to call Dlink's tech support to walk you through uninstalling the drivers that Win XP tried to install when it saw the blue tooth device. They will direct you to the correct driver to match the DBT 120 to your Win Xp.

Audacity worked well and I have edited and saved mp3's as you suggested. Having problems transfering them to the 8100 with Bitpim. I downloaded bitpim and moved the mp3's into it. Great so far. I used all your suggested settings...When I try to send data to phone, I get the following error message "Device Needs Attention LG-VX8100 on COM4", "LG-VX8100 on COM4 - The phone is not responding while transitioning mode from none to brew". I used the a USB Data Cable LX7000 by Xinstein (compatible with 8100) and driver software provided. Does this mean that Bitpim has at least found the phone? Do I need to change a setting in the phone. I do not use the bluetooth. Could the setting for the phone be set for bluetooth?? I'm convinced you can help...your advice has been great to date. Thanks in advance. Ron

Ok, guys, Copy the mp3's out of your miniSD onto your computer, the ringers dont go there. Then get Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ ) You need to cut the file down to a 30 second clip to use as a ringtone. I Don't suggest you use the whole song as the ringer as you will only hear the first 25-30 seconds and it takes up space. Load the mp3 file into Audacity and use the toolbar to select the 30 seconds that you want as the ringer, discard the rest and save as different file name(make sure its still .mp3) After you have all the ringers you want to transfer, open Bitpim. (http://www.bitpim.org) Make sure that in bitpim settings you have the right COM Port # for the phone (you can use serial or usb data cable or bluetooth connection if your computer is bluetooth enabled). Now in Bit Pim click the Ringers Tab. (make sure the program window is not Fullscreen) Open the folder on your computer that contains the ringtones you want to put on the phone, and drag ONE FILE into the ringers box in BitPim. When you do this a box will open with conversion settings. set New Type to MP3, Sample Rate 44100 (good sound quality) Channels 2 (if you want stereo, The VX8100 has two speakers) and Bitrate to 128 (this is good quality and not too big file size). Now click Convert and wait a sec. The bottom half of the box will now be usable. Here you can adjust the volume to make it louder ( I usually bump mine up about 3-5 db, I like them loud) and click Set. Now you can Click play to hear it before it goes to the phone. When satisfied with the volume level click OK. Now the file will be in the ringers part of BitPim. Repeat the process of dragging files and converting. When you are all done and ready to finish click DATA, then Send Phone Info. checkmark the Ringtone box and make sure next to it ADD is selected EVERYTIME you add more ringers!! If Replace is selected, you will lose EVERYTHING! Ok, Now click OK and sit back as your new ringers are installed to the phone. If you have any other questions regarding this or editing your ringtones, post at my personal forum www.sysop-x.com, I check that very often (like every 15 miutes or so)

I just purchased a LG VX8100 and found the same problem of using my own MP3s as Ring Tones. Thank you very much for the great info. Only problem, is that I've never used Audacity to cut MP3s, so I'm wondering if anyone has basic instructions on this. I tried the manual from the Audacity site, but its not making sense to me. not looking to become a master at this, just want to make simple ring tones.

I cannot believe that someone has made it so easy to download mp3's into my 8100 phone. Not only do I get what I want for ringtones....I do not have to pay anything to get them now. Thanks alot Roger | SysOp-X wrote: | Sorry it took so long to reply, I was out of town.
