I tried to charge my phone last night and got the message that it was unable to charge. After several attempts, I got it to charge, only to wake up this morning to find it said unable to charge again.

I turned the phone off and on again to see if that would fix it. Has anyone seen this before?

Make sure that you are inserting the charger perfectly strait into the phone so that both metal connector snap into place, at work we have a data base of different phones (not the V551) but we have the V600/V300/V330 and all have known issues for not taking charge as people do not attach the charger correctly. If this isnt the problem next step would be to try another charger, if you have a friend with a Vxxx series phone all chargers are pretty much the same, if you have had the phone for less then 90 days most carriers will warranty you charger and sometimes the manufacturer will warranty it for 1 year. If its a problem with the phone then the carrier and manufacturer offer 1 year warranty. If there is a cingular store in your area you could also try going there to test your battery in another V551 to narrow down exactly were the problem is.

All true, also last suggestion, most people possibly get dirty battery contacts or charging terminals, try dusting them off so that they're nice and shinny as usual, and my last is universal, the phones had enough, power down, remove battery for a few minutes, reinsert and charge, leave the phone off when you charge that might help a little bit too.

I now have this same problem. Months and months of flawless charging- every single night, and in the last few days it's gotten horrible. Tonight I am totally unable to charge.

Yesterday, I could only get it to charge by manuevering the charger til it was slightly at angle. Tonight that doesn't work. I have cleaned the connectors with alcohol and compressed air, but still nothing.

I will try it with another charger tomorrow, but in the meantime.. any ideas?

My wife and I both got V551s last summer, each came from a different supplier. Both phones require some kind of voodoo to charge. I frequently get the 'unable to charge' message, and sometimes the phone doesn't even recognize the charger is plugged in. I've used 3 different chargers (2 of them original from Cingular), and I can't find a consistent combination that works. Apparently I'm not alone with this problem. Has anyone solved this puzzle?

I have had the same problem with my V505. I was able to fix this by slightly bending the contacts on the charger (and I do mean SLIGHTLY!!!)

Another option is to get the Motorola cable that allows you to plug your charger into it (sorry, I dont have the model number). I noticed on this cable that the connections are longer and make much better contact than the orginal charger contacts.
Hope this helps.

True, the USB cable or some at least have the ability to plug in a wall charger to it. You may use this feature if you wish, but I will state this:

== Do not use this durring flash/flexing for the flash or flex will crash sometimes leaving you in a very stick spot.

Just an experience I'd thought I'd inform you guys of, but also just clean the contacts on your phone sometimes, use a Q-Tip at least it worked for me, I had to work on this very dirty V300 and my PC wouldn't connect, took a dry Q-Tip rubbed it semi-firmly until it was clean enough to connect.

Hope that helps as well

Thanks for pointing it out. I haven't had any problems with flashing or flexing with it, but I will definitely keep an eye out for issues.

Good tip Veilfore thats what I always tell people who have this problem, especially because the phone doesnt come with a rubber plug for the bottom so the contacts get rather dirty.

I experienced the same problem with my wife's Motorola MPx 220. It was a bad battery that simply would not accept charge. Despite the runaround by Motorola that, maybe, the charger was bad, etc. etc., replacing the battery solved our problem. About $40 a month ago.
