If the carrier allows the ESN (the electronic seriel number) to be activated on their systems, you could use it. The PRL updating may work. The only problem you'll have is that if your living in your Alltel area, the phone will very likely show the 'extended' network' ERI or something similar since the phone is technically foreign to your area. You never know theend result unless you try. The phone and Alltel are both CDMA so that's ok but the softwae reflects Verizon stuff...ya never know.

Well I took it to one of my local alltel stores and the guy couldnt get it to work. He said it was locked or something. But they also dont sell this particular phone at their store since they only sell trimodes or tribands or something. He thought it might work if I could get verizon to unlock it. The guy at the verizon store down the street of course wasnt interested in trying to unlock it for me. Where do I go from here? Thanks.

Hrmmm so Ive called verizons tech support 2 times now and the first time I called they said it just needed to be unlocked at verizons store...second time they said its impossible to get an verizon phone working on the alltel network. I also called Alltells tech support 2 times....same results. One guys said its no prob just reprogram it or whatever. Other guy said its not possible to do. Anybody actually know what their taling about?

Unlike GSM, CDMA's don't really have the unlock issue. It is more carrier driven. It is more that the carrier may not let the phone be activated on their network. Tha ESN I metioned, for instance, Verizon gets the ESN's issued on each phone from the manufacturer and those are the only ESN's that can be activated on the billing system. Even though the technology is the same for Alltel, US Cellular, Verizon and partiallySprint..It doesn't mean that the carrier will allow it. It is a dangerous thing for the carrier since your phones programming was not created for that carrier, that carrier knows that roaming issues may occur and that the phone mayu not function as well as it should due to PRL's etc.

Likely, Alltel has certain criteria needed to activate a phone on their network and this phone does not fit the bill.

Thanks bud. I think Ill just sell this thing. Too much of a chore to get it working. If anyone is interested it is only a couple of weeks old. No scratches perfect condition. Even has the protective plastic cover on the ear piece still. I do not have the charger so I will be selling the phone only. I dont need the phone so the first person to mail me with a reasonable offer gets it. Thanks again JSS
