Me and my dad are both on a family share plan. He is about to cancel the 2year contract. I want to keep the phone I have. Will I be able to go to verizon with the phone I have and get my own 2year contract with it? Also, will I be able to keep the same # ?

If its a multi line account just do a COR for your line and you can keep your same number and your dad will only need to pay one ETF if you guys are under contract.

ok, he's already cancelled the contract and is about to pay that penalty bill. He doesn't want a cell phone or to pay my bill. I don't know what a COR is, I just want to take my phone over to verizon and get a service for my own phone and pay my own phone bill. Will they let me do that?

Yes, but I have had problems with dropped calls with Verizon. Check out other plans before you tie yourself up to a two year contract.

COR, or COFR, are Change Of (Financial) Responsibility. When you yourself own the phone, you initiate any changes. By law, phone numbers (when technically eligible,) may move from carrier to carrier. Beware the Early Termination Fee, though. In the U.S., no wireless carrier is really very much different from it's competitors, it all comes down to the type of service you require in your area. Take a cool-off day before cancelling. Maybe take 3 days. I can't stress enough that reacting while you're dissappointed can cause some harsh consequences.
