FYI, usb cable for these models are compatible:
D488 / E100 / E330 / E610 / E700 / E708 / E800 / E808 / E820 / S500-S508 / X100-X108 / X460 / X600-X608 / X640
If you so happen to have an usb cable for your previous E700, you can try it on E800.

No it was not a usb cable and what is the Software I use with the cable as I get the software from
http://au.samsungmobile.com/en/index.jsp
and there are a lot of them there. Also I have just tried to load a nokia PCsuite for some on on my PC and tried to do some synchronisatoin it is fantastic that program. Nokia seems to be years ahead of samsung in terms of software develpoment.
And finally where do I get the USB cable(eBay?) and is the software they say comes normally iwth cable any good?
Thanks..But if I had my way I will keep E700 over E800 anyday..But.....

FYI, you can download all the Samsung S/W for E800 in the following link:
http://www.samsung.com/search/search.asp?qt=E800&la=en&col=wu+wsimsi+d ownload&tabpage=1&radio=1&select=0&x=8&y=13#
If you have a E700 serial cable, I guess it should work in E800 as well, give it a try. If you haven't get one yet and are thinking of getting a serial cable for your E800, the P/N is PCB133LBEG/STD.
If you are thinking of getting a cable from ebay, make sure it mentions that it is compatible with E800. If you are thinking of a brand one, you can visit their web site for more information.

The cable I have got I tried to use it but with it the phone starts to get charged as soon as I plug it in, but that's it nothing else happens..the cable model is PCB037DBE. But the web site I mentioned try it and see there is no support for E800.

Also I have the right software but as I said the phone just starts to get charged and nothing else happens. I guess I will have to get a USB cable any way as my laptop does not have a serial port.
The file I have got is a PIMS Setup..is it the right file??

PCB037DBE is not compatible to PCB133LBEG/STD and that is why it didn't work. If you are good at electronics, you can modify PCB037DBE to PCB133LBEG/STD. Information as follows:
http://pinouts.ru/data/samsung_x100cable_pinout.shtml
Never mind, as you said, you prefer an usb cable since your laptop doesn't has serial port anyway.
The file is something like .....PIMSSetup.exe

I guess the phone detected a voltage at the charge pins and mistakenly think that a charger is connected to the phone. As for the function, as you can see in the schematic, there are a few connections that need to be changed as well as addition of 2 resistors to make it work.
