Hi everybody, especially Cingular USA reps. if any...
So many threads on this forum talking about the unlocked phones not supported by Cingular, so now for once and for all..
DOES CINGULAR USA, ESPECIALLY THE ONE IN PHOENIX, AZ SUPPORT
an unlocked GSM/ GPRS phone supporting GSM 900 / GSM 1800 / GSM 1900???
Simple YES or NO please.
I've read that Cingular was using T-Mobile's "help" for the 1900, and that T-Mobile quit on them, is that true?
Thanks...

Cingulars main freq. here in kansas is 850. the secondary is 1900. Dunno bout AZ but I know Cingular uses 850 and ur fone doesnt support that. So if it does work you wont get the best reception possable.
but as long as its unlocked then yes, it should work. at least a little.

Thanks... but I am still a bit confused... please refer to:

It says that Cingular uses 1900 nationwide?
I am a T-Mobile To Go user now, would like to change to Cingular Pay As You Go if possible but not interested in buying another phone.

thats saying cinguler may use 1900 more so than 850. but 850 is used in some markets a lot more than others.
Something about the FCC that makes them do that I think. Not sure. But richard (head cell site tech here in wichita) says the main freq here is 850..

Okay... but how then can I check the main freq here in Phoenix for sure, as calling the customer reps on a couple of different occacions today got me different answers as well? Tried 3 times, got 3 answers. One: 850. Two: 1900. Three 850/ 1900. Wondering if a fourth time would get me "I don't know" or "we will check into it some more" and "you can try calling us back again later" or "we will call you back as soon we have some information on this matter"? Hehehe, just thinking ahead with typical customer service answers. :
Thanks again.

Yes. 1900MHz exists in the Pheonix market so if you're on a national plan where no roaming is charged (in case you're on a T-mobile tower), you can use a 1900MHz Cingular phone (unless of course the roaming agreements have changed).
edit more info, available licenses exist for 1900MHz band:

Hello, I am a newbie on this forum. I have been searching the forum with the hopes of finding a way to locate the tower I am using from my home.
I live in a country area. When I speak to Cingular customer service I am told that I am "in a fringe area". As a result I am going to attempt to place a directional PCS antenna on the exterior of my home and point it towards the tower which services my home in an attempt to improve my indoor service. Customer service will not provide me the location of the tower, they just say I am farther away than is recommended. Is there anyway to get a idea of which way I should orientate my antenna.
I am located in La Vernia, TX 78121. I am aware of a cell tower located at 29.30817N -98.057. I do not believe this is a PCS tower let alone one that Cingular uses.
Thank you in advance. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
