Anyone know if Verizon will disable Bluetooth on the upcoming Motorola E815 or LG VX8100 like they did for the V710?

Verizon has excellent coverage, but their customer service is atrocious and the way they dealt with the V710 was flat out underhanded. It would be nice to see them actually have their customers' best interests in mind by making the E815 and VX8100 fully BT-capable.

NHS2003,

When you say the 8100 will be Bluetooth enabled, do you mean it'll be FULLY enabled? Technically speaking, the V710 is "Bluetooth enabled." But Verizon disabled about 95% of BT capabilities on the V710. The V710 cannot transfer or receive files or photos to other BT hardware, cannot sync with PDAs, and the V710 doesn't work with most cars that have factory-installed BT hands-free packages. The only BT functions that do work are hands-free ear pieces and dial-up networking.

So I ask again...will either the 8100 or the E815 be FULLY Bluetooth enabled? Or will Verizon again cripple most of the BT features?

If you're talking Verizon, it will be crippled. That's what they're Get it Now service is for, so you have to pay for extras. So you can count on the 8100 and 815 being Bluetooth enabled but it will be crippled.

If you haven't heard both were due for release June 27 but they have delayed the release until July 5th.

I don't understand why VZW would cripple Bluetooth. The demand and market for FULLY capable Bluetooth features is huge, especially with businesses. Any losses VZW would suffer from non-crippled BT circumventing their crappy Get-It-Now would easily be overshadowed by the profits they would make as a result of the demand for fully capable Bluetooth phones.

If the 8100 and E815 are fully BT, everyone and their mother will buy one resulting in millions of dollars in profit. But by crippling BT, VZW is only hurting themselves and sales of those phones will suffer, as proven with the absolute failure in both customer satisfaction and lack of sales with the V710.

You'd be suprised how many downloads have occured and the amount of money it has generated. While you're on a forum that values the ability to hack features, that is the minority of users. Most people just want to download it, pay a few bucks and get on with life. The serious revenue generated by Get it Now would be overshadowed if BT were to affect it. While I think that BT would not due to what I said above, since it is an agreement with the Brew App developers, legally, it has to be this way.

I loved my V710 before I washed it. So much so that I'm gonna replace it with the E815 when it comes out. Any reason why your didn't like it. If it was 'pre-cockeyed camera fix' model, I understand. After the fix, the phone was one of the best reception phones I had.
