I am a T- Mobile customer and I was given a Motorola v551 from a friend and its under cingular. I need an unlock code so I can use it with cingular. Does anyone know how to get cheap or no cost codes?

Never give out your imei number! And no one here can give u an unlock code. Try calling tmobile or cingular or where ever the phone came from. And are you aware it looks like you posted the same thing twice?

Contact T-Mobile, they can try to obtain the code for you OR email OLD FOOL (motorola forum), catch is you need to send him the phone so he can connect it to his smartclip.

T-Mobile won't be able to get the subsidy code for a phone that isn't theirs, and cingular doesnt give them out anymore.

Yes T-Mobile will be able to attempt to get the code, I have given out cingular subsidy codes before when I was on the phones. The sim subsidy code form has a drop down menu for the previous carrier, cingular is listed there.

I heard that too unfortunatel, not sure if that applies to just consumers or if the will give them to T-Mobile, havent done and unlock request for another carrier since I was taking calls.

You will need to provider T-Mobile at the time your request the unlock code:
1. Previous Carrier ->Cingular
2.Previous Account holders name-> your friend
3.Previous Account number
4.Previous MSISDN (mobile number)
5.IMEI#
6. Make and Model -> Motorola V551
As far as #'s 2,3 & 4 go there is no room on the form to add these but tell them to put it in the extra information at the bottom of the form, if they do not input this info you will be denied an unlock code and your request will come back incomplete. Just keep in mind that if T-Mobile is requesting an unlock code from another carrier they cannot guarentee the response time or that an unlock code will be provided.
