I suppose you have correctly installed the driver for your cable. Am I right? You mentioned that both PC Link 2000 and Bitpim are not working for your A680. Does that mean both programs won't connect with your phone at all? Is it possible that you got an imcompatible cable? Try install the programs in another computer. I heard cases where problem sometimes related to computer. Have you ever tried Samsung's PC Link ver. 1?

Sounds like the cable is good then. If nothing works, I suggest you try contacting Samsung for some technical advice. May be they will give you the right PCLink program to use.

You should keep on complaining to them, they may give you some alternative or suggestion like what 3rd party S/W should work.

Cell phone accessories will be available from your Service Provider.
Samsung does not retail any of our products directly.
Please contact cellular service provider to find out if it is available for your model.
For USB cable transfers:
If you need to use a data cable, please request any necessary software if any is available for it. The provider is responsible to distribute the software and accessories, as it is written or made specifically for this phone on their service. From the Samsung stand point the use of the port is strictly for service and not for file transfers.

Once your provider no longer stocks the accessories or replacement parts, a 3rd party website might need to be contacted

I won't be surprised as that is their normal reply. I received the same thing last time when I asked them where I can get the data cable. Probably your service provider will say the software is Samsung thing and ask you to contact Samsung. Last time, I told Samsung that I am so unsatifed and will return the phone to the service provider to exchange for phone from other brand and then they started to tell me more. I think you should ask them about the PClink S/W that they posted on their web site for A680. Tell them that if the port is not for data transfer then their phone sucks as all others has data transfer functions.
By the way, did you ever talk to your service provider on this issue?
