I had the 680 & a 660 I had no problems with either of them accessing through Bitpim. check this out for a good howto.. http://home.comcast.net/~jna03/a660/ He gives you some sample files to work with. They all work great. Only thing he doesn't mention is.... Lots of rebooting the phone. ie after you upload files then need to delete the amsregisrty, lots of times you get a pop-up with ERROR..... just re-boot the phone, then delete the file, then re-boot the phone again.
I suggest when you are uploading files(games/apps) install 1 game/app at a time. that way if one of the games/app/ringers etc. isn't correct you only have to re-do 1 at a time.
*note. after you upload a game or whatever, and go to check it out on the phone and see that ALL downloaded stuff (pics, apps, games, ringers) is gone DON'T FRET!, just get back into the phone and delete the last app/game you put in, delete the amsregistry, and re-boot the phone (again) and everything will be back to normal.
While you're at it on you'rwe phone when you go into menu, settings, security, and then hit either shift,0,or # you get a menu that asks for 'Field Serv' code... You will find some of these 6 digit codes in the NVM folder in the nvm_002 file. use hexdump to scroll through.
Happy Hacking!
PS MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT DELETE ANY OF THE FILE FOLDERS OR OTHER FILES BY MISTAKE!!!! the phone will lock up, and when you go to reboot it it will hang at the Samsung screen. The warranty guys can reprogram it, but you're stuck without your phone for a month!

HELP FOR MOST OF YOUR SPH660-680 DATA CABLE USB PROBLEMS!!!

Hey, guys, like you I was having the same problem, expect I use a Samsung SPH-A680 on Bell Mobility Network in Canada.

I bought the same cable from eforcity.com on Ebay and yes, drivers were installed correctly and phone was detected as a CDMA Modem on COM3 but, the stupid programs (EasyGPRS & PIMS) would not detect my phone icon_sad.gif. This is because BELL makes the phone a CDMA, where as ROGERS, it is GSM. Rogers, GSM you have no problem with EasyGPRS or now replaced with PIMS 2.0.

So yea, if you have Bell Network these Samsung programs will not work. So I was depressed, but I found a solution.

http://www.bitpim.org -- Get BITPIM, The lastest version was released on April 10, 2006. Let me tell you, it works like a beauty with my SPH-A680.

As soon as I loaded the program it detected my phone and downloaded my phonebook, my calender, ringtones and wallpaper. This program works like a charm.

All you do is drag-and-drop the files you want. Open ringers and drop straight midi files or .QCP for voice/talking ringtones. -There is a process to make .QCP files on your computer, by taking clips from .Mp3's converting those to .WAV and finally converting those .WAV to .QCP voice tones for Samsung.

---> Go to this link to learn how to make voice tones from mp3's for your samsung. Its easy!
http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11225

Same for photos, drag in .JPG's and boom you are good to go. And save 'em if you wish to export.

Only 2 things I haven't figured out or the program can't do:

1. Import games into the phone (which I dont care too much about)
2. Import/Export videos on the phone.

So yea mainly I wanted it for ringtones, images and phonebook management. I have yet to figure out how to put on games or take off my videos that I made, but since the phone only holds 15/sec videos anyway I don't care too much.

So yea, get BITPIM v0.8, it works like a charm and it will save you from punching a hole in the drywall because the shitty samsung software didn't work icon_smile.gif. Now I have to patch my damn wall.

Anyways, just wanted to post for all of you that were having problems out there, cuz like you I was fustrated until I got this POS to work. My next phone will be a BlueTooth one, no doubt.

I will check this forum for a bit before I disappear, so post questions, I'll gladly try and help you out, thanks.

ttyl and good luck!!!!
