Does IR Remote Control only work for symbian phones? If it doesn't, where can I get it, as a .jar type?

The 6230 was one of the first which had a interface defined which allows access to BT and IR, but the sizelimit and the abilities of Java-Apps on phones disallow most ideas. Or are very hard to program.
(The games in the 8310 were inside the firmware and had direct access to the IR port)
