For the most part the only way you can tell is the name NOKIA on the label, but there are true counterfits that are printed with the NOKIA name. Cable should be black with royal blue ends - or it is not real. I would say buy it from NOKIA only, but they don't even produce enough to reduce the back orders.

After peforming the entire "ritual" of installing the chinese CA42 i found myself with an installed cable (Nokia CA42 on COM3) and a Nokia Suite that does not recognize my phone (Nokia 6021).
I switched off and on the phone and PC using all the possible combinations. It doesn't work and that's it!
I appeal to you as a last resource before doing something irrational like buying an original Nokia cable. Please send me that wonder driver for CA42 cable that has been sent around here with quite a high rate of success. Yuo may send it at "marusaki(at)gmail(dot)com" (must fight spam!).
Thank you and my eternal respect!

I too purchased a knockoff Nok CA42 data cable from E-bay. I was able to transfer one file, but only once. It hasn't worked since. Nokia PC Suite says my 6102i is connected via serial cable, but when I click on the phone in File Manager, the phone cannot be found. I've downloaded different drivers but am not sure if I installed them correctly. All I want to do is create my own mp3 ringtones for my phone. Can anyone give me a little hand holding guidance to fix this problem? Email me at mejem@comcast.net. I would be eternally grateful.

I bought one of these "NOK-off" cables off ebay (black cable with dark blue ends). The install disc and the manual both have a very Nokia look about them, but only have CA-42 where it would say Nokia.
I've followed the directions given by the seller and i've tried all the different driver sets linked via this thread. I still can't get it to work.
According to the seller when i plug the cable in, it's supposed to be detected as "USB Controller C" but all i get is unknown device then shortly after unrecognised device. Windows won't load any drivers for the unknown device, and i can't find any drivers for a "USB controller C".
I can install the cable drivers manually, but it shows up with an error 'This device cannot start (code 10)".
I've tried the cable on another system as well, the same thing happens.
Anyone have any idea?? Could it be a faulty cable?? or am i just missing something?

Hi, I bought a CA-42 cable from ebay, however I don't think is the same as the one you people have, since mine has all the pins that connect to the phone, not just some. I didn't have any luck with the drivers told in this thread but lets see if we get it to work...

hi am new also i have a 6101 i had to pay $199 to buy it to replace the motorola i am still paying off because it died out of warrenty and iu also brought a CA-42 cable on ebay made in china (because i just can't afford the $72aud wanted for the legit vesion of the cable) i have litterly been trying to sort this out since 2pm it's now 8pm i now have a migraine and i am about reaady to cry
because i have been through every page on this thread and tried every suggestion even signed up to that german website (can't read german) to try and get the driver and nothing has worked all the drivers i have dled from this site either will not install or aren't recognised when i try and force it to update the drivers, i even tried that hack thig followed the instructions and there was no way for me to choose it i just don't get that option with my windlows xp home
all i wanted to do was put some decent tones on and decent pictures
now the onhly thing i can think of to do is use the DKU-5 cable my roomie got but i have no idea if that is compatable with a 6101 (yes it is a nokia branded cable)
i am also beggining to think my comp is the issue and not the cable
please excuse my bag grammer and spelling like i said i have a migraine now
PS this is what the sticker on the cable says
CA-42
ZQ 0600201
Made in
China
and what appears to be a C and a E near the china

i went to the website clicked on dl pc suite got all excited because it said DKU-5 was copatable with my phone, i went into the other room went to uget it out of the packaging and discovered it said DKU-2 so it will not be compatable and yes DKU-5 is conmpatable
i have since learned from looking at some genuine CA-42 cables online that my cable has way to many pins so there could be why i am getting no where why my comp wont recognise any drivers for it. either way i have decided i can't be bothered anymore and i will get IR and use that if only any comp store in the local area actually had any in stock

I have a new Nokia 6103 and my wife got me the data cable from the internet and since tuesday i have also tried everything on this forum to get my cable to work. I have had zero luck too. I was up till 6am trying this morning on other forums but had no luck there either. Is there anyway anyone knows how to change the firmware on the phone to allow it to recognize the non authentic cables? Without using a data cable...
