I've tried over and over again to get this to work, but alas , It doesn't work. if anyone can give me step-by step Instructions, I would really appreciate it. I also have no Idea what you mean by "update the driver with this hack." Is there a way to "update" the drivers, or do you just move the files into the driver file? Please help! I got my USB CA-42 knock-off today and could not connect, I searched the internet and found this forum but nothing worked. I finally got it to work by playing around with the settings in pc suite. I have a t-mobil 6101, hope this helps some of you although I cant guarantee everyone will have the same options. In the Nokia PC suite click manage connections. Make sure both serial and usb are checked. Highlight serial and then click on configure, then down arrow to the USB data cable option highlight and click ok. Mine started working right away.
Yellowcard,
I followed your instructions and everything came up ok where I could see what's on my phone, HOWEVER when I went to go copy something onto my phone an error window opened up saying "Phone not connected". I'm using Windows XP, and I also have a hack CA-42 cable (black with blue on each end) that I bought off Ebay. Any other suggestions??
Maybe I'm transferring things wrong? can you just copy and paste files over? I need help. I'm getting so frustrated with this!!

Hello guys!
I got a Nokia 6101 phone that I would like to connect to my computer (running Windows XP and USB 1.0) with the fake CA-42 cable I got from eBay.
Is there anyone who actually got it working with the gear mentioned above?! I would be very greatful if you shared a guide or something, because I'm about to give up... Have tried everything suggested in this thread, including four driver packages.
For the final try I've deleted all previous cable drivers and Nokia software, but now my computer won't even recognize the cable when I plug it in...
What to do?

I was able to get my Nokia 6102i to connect using the following steps:
1. Uninstall all Nokia PC Suite and Connectivity/Driver apps from your computer.
2. Uninstall the USB connection in the Device Manager (you may have to choose View-->Show hidden devices to see it)
6. Install the software first, then connect the phone. My phone installed from drivers found on a CD that came with the cable. If anyone needs these drivers, please email me (by removing the pipes) at carey|at|careyhead|dot|net.
7. Do not upgrade to the PC Suite from Nokia.com. It will not work.
Best of Luck,
Carey

Thanks for the guide Carey, but it won't work for me. I simply can't get connected!
I get to the PC Suite Get Connected screen, but nothing happens. When I check the properties for my serial cable in PC Suite Manage Connections, it says Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port (COM3). But still I can't see this connection in My Computer's Device manager.
I've spend some hours on this cable, but I'm about to give up now.

I too am having this problem. I recently bought a CA-42 off ebay for my nokia 6103. I didn't know it was a cheap asian knockoff and it wouldn't work properly. Is there any way to get it working? when I plug it into my phone it says "Data enhancement connected" and then it says "Enhancement not supported" and when the nokia PC suite tries to detect my phone it just sits there doing nothing. This is incredibly frustrating, as all I really want to do with it for now is get one photo off it. It didn't come with any drivers either. I tried the drivers provided in this thread, both CA-42 and CA-42 hack, and with both drivers all it says is "This directory does not contain any information about your hardware."
What can I do??

I have also tried the suggestions in this post. I have the CD from www.ca42.com. Now the website seems to be down (permanently?). The 6015i is not supported in the copy of software I have. Sadly I feel no hope in this situation. I have ordered a true Nokia cable with the hope that it will resolve all my issues. If it does fine, if not, I am getting a new phone around Christmas time. The whole cable incompatibility thing just makes me sick.

Hello Friends,
I'm new to this forum. But I have a suggestion, which worked for me with the CA-42 issue. I bought a new nokia 6070 and used the software called "Mobimb Media Browser" instead of the nokia pc suite. It has all the same features of Nokia PC Suite. You can download a trial version for 21 days from the site www.logomanager.co.uk and try it. First install the PL-2303 usb to serial driver and then install the CA-42 driver. Then you need to install the software and then configure it using the settings wizard. Then it will work!
Hope this helps for some!

Hi everybody,
I have bought a cheap CA-42 cable on Internet, and now I have difficulty making it work I discover your forum. This post is the more complete I've found about this problem.
Here is mine : I received a driver CD with my cable (the black one with blue ends), and the cable is recognized as 'CA42 USB-to-Serial Bridge'. But it does not work due to an exclamation point in the device manager : 'Device cannot start (error 10)'.
Some people encountered the same problem in November 2005 on this post (Danielfeng, Rapidcycle, Giraffonfire, Omac65 ...), and they found a solution by upgrading the driver with a hacked driver : CA42hack.rar . A link to downolad the file was given several months ago in this post, but it does not work any more.
Could anybody help me ? Could someone tell me where to find this CA42hack.rar, or send it to me : gwendal.public AT free DOT fr .
