There is another way, get a life and buy a phone with blue tooth!
Back to the problem, I find that the pc nokia suite likes to hang up the desktop, but the program Mobile edit is a lot more stable,. and it works.

Well finally today I got connected, and without any trouble.woohoo!
It must have been a dodgy CA-42 cable I had before - although a genuine nokia - because I got a new Nokia cable and its just plugs in & PC Suite recognises the phone straight away. I still kinda can't believe it hehe.
I had tried a friend's generic cable after giving up on the first one, and although the computer recognised it OK downloading drivers etc, the phone flashed up "not authentic data enhancement" or something like that.
So glad I perservered bought another cable even @ 70 bucks its worth it to work right. It was driving me mental lol

i have purchased a generic cable (money talks) tried installing the drivers from the cd that came with it for some reason it installed the dku5 drivers. i then downlaoded a few of the ca-42 drivers linked in messagees on this forum and still it is listed in the device manager as a dku5. i tried the same with the pc suite from the nokia site and got the same reuslts . the drivers are installed and it shows that they are for the dku5 cable allthough this is (or is labels as) a ca-42. still can't connect my phone pc suite freezes each time i try.
help!
if anyone has the right drivers or something that can help please mail to boazparran@yahoo.com

I spent too many hours on the challenge of connecting with a knockoff CA-42 cable from eBay. I couldn't get its supplied drives & those downloads from this topic to work.
Splurged on an OEM Nokia CA-42 cable from eBay - total $21.35.
Downloaded the latest Nokia PC Suite software (6.83 for a 3120).
Everything works perfectly.
( Just wish the Phone Number Editor in 6.8 had the features & ease of use of 4.5 )

I bought the CA 42 cable a while back. But since then i had to reinstalled my computer.
And now whenever i plug in my cable, the computer doesn't recognize the cabal, and tells me that the "USB Device Not Recognized". I tried everything, but i couldn't find a way to make him recognize it. Can someone help me or give me right Driver?
PS: I am using Windows Vista, I guess it makes some difference.
Thanks in advance.

I tried the method Captain Grumpy outlined on 8 January with the following result:
Cable: Made in China "Type CA-42; IL40083821"
Computer IBM P3 663 Mhz w/ NO USB devices connected to either of the two USB ports. Windows XP Pro w/Service Pack 2.
No previous installs of PC Suite or CA42 drivers on the computer (nice to have a test machine I can roll back the image on)
1. Downloaded and installed latest version of PC Suite software from Nokia (US) site: file Nokia_PC_Suite_683_rel_14_1_eng_web.exe
2. Ran above executable.
3. When PC Suite connection screen appeared, closed PC Suite
4. Plugged cable into USB port -- NO phone attached.
5. Windows displayed three messages in sequence -
--- new device
--- something something something
--- USB Device Not Recognized
6. Clicked on USB Not Recognized box -- diagram shows "Unknown Device" and "Unused Port" hanging off USB Root Hub (2 ports).
So with Captain Grumpy's procedure, I only get half-way through step 2 then don't get any prompts to install the cable drivers.
He notes the most common problem is the comport connection -- which is obviously an issue in my example -- but does not say specifically how to resolve the problem.
Has anyone been successful using his procedure?

I bought a CA-42 cable off eBay for my 6102i, hoping to be able to use the phone as a modem when I was away from somewhere with a public access point for wifi. The seller has an online store called iGoneMobile.
They said in the auction tech support and drivers are not included, I figered it should be a piece of cake finding a driver for it (I do computer repair, so I'm always searching for drivers for unknown hardware). Turns out I was wrong about that. I got to page 10 of this thread and had tried every driver I could. The last one I tried was posted by Csmicfool (page 10) which recognized the cable but it won't work with PCSuite or anything else.
The cable is the one what is black with the blue Nokia lookalike ends, the label on the USB underside has this information:
CA-42
Type: CA-42
GSAC201
Made in China
Currently the phone recognizes it without any problem, I just need the computer to recognize it and use it. When plugged in, Windows sees it as "USB-serial converter" (I think)
I sent a message to the eBay seller, but I doubt I'll get a useful reply. Any help would be appreciated!
EDIT: Odd, but it appears my desktop recognizes it automatically as "Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port". I don't think I had installed any different software on it, unless it is using the same driver as my Serial Adapter (likely). PCSuite still doesn't recognize it though.
