ok I just got my cable and have some problems as well.
I managed to install the driver no problem (Nokia CA-42 USB (COM3)). But the installation instructions say that I have to install a modem driver as well. well whenever I select Nokia 6610i, and go to the next screen to select a com port, I have no options for com ports. What can I do? How do I install the modem?

I almost got it working. I installed the driver that came with the CD, then I downloaded the latest Nokia Suit 6.83. Installed it with the cable unplugged. after restarting the computer, I used the Nokia Suit connection wizard (cable still unpluged). Selected Cable connection, and pressed next. on the next screen it tells you to plug in your cable and your cable into the Cell phone. So I did exactly that.
Well it did establish connection.but thats as far as I got. If I try to do anything (browse files or whatever) it tells me that it can not establish connection.
Any ideas?

My search for PC connectivity has landed me here. I have CA-42 cable that does not respond to the drivers I bought it with. I've downloaded the driver uploaded by rapidcycler but it is in rar format that my computer does not read. Can I get it in another format such as inf, msi, or exe format? r.lango AT yahoo DOT com

Hi, I'm new to this forum and haven't read every post in this thread. I may or may not be able to help anyone with these problems, and someone may already have written what I am about to. But I sell alot of these cables, approx 200 per month and have had no complaints from people. (I lie, on some I get initial complaints but once I explain how to connect the cable there is never any further problems).
Before I start, a little information about the data cables:
There is no difference between the Chinese version CA-42 / CA-53 etc and the genuine Nokia models. Sorry there is about $50. Both cables are USB to USB cables (a bit of a fallacy), both can use the same software, and both are a pain to install.
Do not believe the people say they are different. They're cables that connect one device to another, that's it, period. The problems lie in the software and driver installation. So, I repeat again, both cables should work with both genuine and non genuine Nokia software. I have proved this time and time again.
Important information about the cables and connection with your phone and or computer:
1. The CA-42 data cable is not strictly a usb cable, but a data cable;
2. This means you must ensure that you are connected to the correct com port on the computer;
3. A common question I'm often asked is, "the cable doesn't fit into the bottom of my phone'. The connection to the computer and the phone may seem tight and you may have to apply some added pressure;
4. Check that when you connect the phone to the cable that the phone Identifies the connection.
Installation Procedure
1. Install software from cd to computer (data suite or just download it from Nokias website - it all works the same)
2. Plug cable into computer (DO NOT PLUG PHONE INTO CABLE YET) and follow the 'next/next/next' prompts to install the cable drivers.(your computer should automatically recognise the drivers from the disk)
3. Restart computer
4. Plug phone into data cable (and follow following procedure)
a. Phone icon will appear in bottom right icons list of your computer
b. Right click on icon
c. Go to connections
d. Click on data cable type
e. Click on configure
f. Ebsure your cable is plugged into the same usb port as is stated in the configure section.
5. Start nokia data suite and your phone will connect.
6. Your phone should do this automatically but make sure it is set to activate for the data enhancement.
This is what I have been sending my customers as I find the instructions in the booklet are don't work. I have sold over 1000 of these cables (and more CA-53) and get about 5 people a week that have problems. Once they have these instructions, not one person has come back.
The most common problem is the comport connection. Remember, your cable is not a true USB cable, but a data cable. This means that your com ports must be correct. 75% of data cable faulty installations are fixed once this problem is corrected.
The remaining 25% of problems occur when you try to install the cable and with the phone connected. REMEMBER - DO NOT HAVE YOUR PHONE CONNECTED WHEN INSTALLING YOUR CABLE DRIVERS AND SOFTWARE. It will not work.
That's about it. I hope I have been able to help someone out there with their installation problems. These cables are inherantly hard to use but patience is the key. You don't need to spend big money on orignal product from Nokia. The cables all come from the same place.
Try my instructions and see how you go.
I am available on email, if you have any questions or further problems. I'm more then happy to help where I can.

How do I ensure that I've used the right com port?

I bought a cable from Radio Shack about $19 for a Nokia 6101. The cable is labeled LL80671. I have always had problems when I just install the Nokia suite.
Here's how I fixed the problem:
1) After installing the full suite delete the cable driver installed from Nokia under add\remove programs in the control panel.
3) I plugged the cable in the USB cable to the port while attached to the phone.
4) Windows XP gave me a message saying new USB hardware installed.
5) Windows installed some "Windows portable connectivity driver"
6) Windows then recognized my phone as 6101 hardware.
7) I restarted the Nokia suite and the phone was recognized.
Hope this helps.

I got a knockoff CA-42 cable from Igonemobile on eBay. The VID is 067B and the PID is 2303. I am trying to connect a Nokia 6102i with this cable, but no drivers were provided with the cable. I Googled the VID and PID but I still can't get the driver I found working with PC Suite.
