Daniel's driver worked like a champ for me. It sounds like most of us got our cables off of ebay from iogears. Anyway, I have uploaded it to a server so you can download the driver as needed without Daniel being pestered about it. Enjoy. And thanks again, Daniel.

I too bought a knock-off CA-42 from iogears on eBay and have had the same problems. I downloaded the drivers that danielfeng provided, but they're not working for me. My computer recognizes it as Nokia CA-42 USB (COM4), but I get a 'Device cannot start' error. Does anyone have a solution?

Yes, I have a hack that I made that will resolve that issue for you. I am assuming that you are using XP. Download the file below and update the driver for the existing port. Let me know how it works for you.

I received the driver from Daniel ... THANKS.

It didn't work for me icon_cry.gif ... my generic / worthless cable icon_devil.gif says

CA-42
Type CA-42
EK21005772
Made in China

The CD that came with the cable says
original NOK enhancements
Driver for Conectivity adapter cable CA-42

Does anyone have this specific cable working?

Try this.

Thanks!!!!! This worked Great. If your having this problem you must update the driver with the above file. When you do you must force windows to install the driver by selecting "install from a list or specific location" - Then choose "Dont search. I will choose a driver" - then direct it to the folder with the above files.. choose the new driver and your in.

Thanks Again . You guys Rock!

Hey guys,

At my wits end... Tried everything above and still having basic problems getting this knock off cable from iogears working....

Running WinXP SP2, logged in as local Admin.

Tried the chinese and english nokia drivers, no luck.

Extracted CA42.rar and ca42hack.rar to same subdir, pointed install to that structure, no go.

Manually clicked on each inf file and selected install - no go.

Tried to pull silabs drivers from windows update directly, no go.

If I try to manually execute the EXE's in the ca42.rar file, I get 'could not open uninstaller ini file'.

Under details, Hardware ID is
USB\Vid_07d0&Pid_4101&Rev_0000

Cable shows up simply as 'USB to Serial', device properties.

Any ideas?

-Tim

Hi Tim,
Does your cable work??? Regardless of what it says..

If it doesn't do the following:

uninstall the chinese and english versions of the drivers by running their setups if you can.

Next, unplug your cable from your computer.
REBOOT
Plug your cable into your computer. It should prompt you for the drivers. Don't let it search. install the driver yourself. Point it to the ca42 directory. This should install your USB driver successfully, and possibly your com port driver successfully. if you have NO exclamation points under your com ports in Device Manager then you are finished.

If you do have an exclamation point under your com ports in Device manager you will need ca42hack.

Right click on the port with the Exclamation point and go to the Drivers tab. choose to update the driver. Choose not to search and to install the driver yourself. Direct the install to the ca42hack directory. this will install the proper driver.

Reboot and your cable and phone should work.

Post back here if you have more questions.
