Get window coming back saying
"Cannot install this hardware. The hardware was not installed because the wizard connot find the necessary software."

"NOKIA CA-42 USB-to-Serial Comm Port"

Is this what it says? Did you install any other drivers? Like a prolific driver(PL-2303 for instance)? If you did, you need to uninstall it. Then install the driver from ca42 and then update it with the driver from ca42hack.

OK, you have to update the driver and direct windows to the specific file ser2pl.inf It looks like that file is not being installed possibly because another driver other than Ca42 has been installed.

If you have installed any other drivers you must uninstall them until windows has NO idea what driver you are using. I'm guessing you have been trying a lot of drivers to get it work. If you got it from iogears, if you clear those other drivers out, these will work. when all is said and done, your com port should say...

NOKIA CA-42 USB-to-Serial Comm Port(com port number)

and device details should say.....

USB\VID_10B5&PID_AC70&MI_00&OS_NT

let me know.

Welp, I'm beginning to think I have been sent a different cable.... I went over to a virgin machine -plugged the cable in and ran USB view....

VID is 0x07D0
PID is 0x4101

Very different from the VID/PID in the set inf's... I wonder if I change the inf's if it'll work....

Update, Ok, took the original CA42 driver set. Search/Replace on
VID_10B5&PID_AC70 to VID_07D0&PID_4101 and I was able to get 1 step closer...

Now I have a 'Wireless Comunication Devices' section installed and working, but now I also have a 'Other devices'/'Unknown device'. Changed ser2pl.inf to match my new Device ID settings. Now I have the Nokia CA-42 USB to Serial Comm Port installed.

Learning too much about USB...!

I too have the Generic CA-42 cable I bought from IOGears. I installed all the drivers from this site and got the phone connected finally only to get on the phone "enhancement not supported" and the phone won't do anything. I have a Nokia 3587i and contacted Nokia about it and they told me since I didn't have the official cable from them it wouldn't work. Any suggestions would be great and appreciated ty John

I'd say abandon hope... iogears is definately getting negative feedback from me, and probably a fraud letter to ebay... Their ad lists 'nokia cable'.. not nokia compatable cable...

My Nokia 3120 gave me the enhancement not supported msg. I was able to get the drivers to eventually load, then hooked up my new 6820, it recognized the cable, but would never hook up to PC Suite... I'm giving up and going to buy a Bluetooth adapter for my notebook.

This is the email I got back from IOGears:

Sorry about that.
Please return it to me for a full refund.
Once I receive it, I will give you a full refund.
Please include a copy of this email or write a note indicating you want a
refund or replacement with ebay's item number.

So I am gonna pack it up and ship it back and get my money back for the cable. I don't understand why people offer to sell ya somethin genuine then send ya a knock off brand.

Daniel and others,

Thanks for the help with this. I was up all night trying to figure it out. And thanks to whoever left the URL in the feedback for iogears on Ebay.

Now the cable is working fine with my Nokia 6102!
