I had all the issues with my cable that you guys had. Thanks to the posts, I was able to get my cable fully recognized (after using the hack). It shows up in Device Manager with no exclamation point, and windows reports that it is "functioning properly" on COM 5.
However, after all those hours of troubleshooting, Nokia PC Suite still pretends the phone is not there. It won't connect to it at all.
Anyone with a solution?
Thanks so much!

Dear danielfeng,
My problem is a bit different.
I have a Nokia 6610 phone. After trying to make it work with many different kinds of DKU-5 datacables I had lost all hope to be able to transfer tones to my phone.About 10 days back my frnd gave me a CA-42 serial cable and told me to try it with my phone..Well wonder of wonders it does work and gets installed and also recognises my phone and allows me to take a backup of my phone.Thats after I install the cable driver which comes with PC Suite6.6 and connect the phone it works very well. I am using Windows XP with SP2.
NOW every time I try to shut down my PC or restart it through the normal shutdown or restart methods it DOES NOT WORK.Windows refuses to shutdown on its own after installation of the cable driver.I have to shut it manually every time. When I remover the cable driver through Add/Remove programs the PC again starts to work fine and have normal shutdowns and restarts.I have tried this 3 times and am hence asking you for help in this matter.Does your cable driver have problems with Windows SP2? Which version of PC Suite should I use with my Nokia6610 and PC with Windows with SP2? Pls reply as soon as possible.
Please also mail me the compatible CA-42 cable driver at buntykate@yahoo.com
Thanks

Hello! I apparently have a knock off cable as well. RA-42. I have the Nokia 3120. Does anyone have the driver they can send me? I really appreciate it!

I've tried the drivers in the links previously posted.
Could someone send the driver you're talking about to lvtalon@hotmail.com.
I've tried all over the net and every driver I've downloaded still doesn't work with my "made in China" knock-off.
It sounds like I may have a slightly different knock off than everyone else.
Thanks

Hello another newby here....
I've downloaded the software you have so generously published here and have succesfully installed it. The driver is perfect but I get a strange problem.... Once installed and on the windows device manager the nokia ca42 cable appears with a ! sign and the error says "the device could not be iniciatted (error nš 10)" Does anyone now what this is?
Thank you
